Zagreb is a location which is divided in to numerous neighborhoods, each of which is distinct from the others and all of which are worth exploring. The best means of exploring any of them is on foot, which gives travelers a chance to better hear the sounds, smell the smells and see the sights that make each one of them unique.
The neighborhood most travelers know about, or will quickly find out about if they read up about Zagreb before heading there, is Upper Town. This is the historic area of the city where travelers can experience the past just by walking around and taking it in. Usually, this type of historic neighborhood makes up the town center of a place, but this is not the case with Zagreb. In fact, there are multiple locations in Zagreb which are considered to be the town center, known of which are actually at the true center of the area.
Jelacic Square is the area most frequently considered to be the town center. It is closest to the location of the true city center of Zagreb. It is also the center of much of the history of the established government of the area, as is noted by the statue of an old-time governor which stands there.
