Much of central Sarajevo is amenable to pedestrians. You can get an up-to-date map at the local Tourist Information Office once you're in the city. For longer trips between locations, consider taking the tram, which provides service along a east-west route across the city. You can purchase tickets for the tram at the shops located at the tram stops, or on board (though these tickets will cost more) when the shops are closed. Be sure to validate your ticket once on board; plainclothes inspectors are often on board to check for tickets and validations. Not having a validated ticket (or not having a ticket, for that matter) could result in a hefty fine.

For longer trips around the region, you will want to take advantage of bus or rail service. Both methods of transportation offer daily service from Sarajevo to destinations both near and far, including other cities in Bosnia & Herzegovina, as well as Croatia, Hungary, and other nearby countries.
