This page is intended as guide to the handiest public transport options from Dublin Airport to the more popular hotels in and around central Dublin. Most options involve either an express or local bus with possible a connection by regular public transport.
Express Buses
Aircoach operate 2 routes to the city centre and out to the southern suburbs: on the way they stop close to many hotels. The combined frequency is every 10 minutes and the fare is €7.00 one-way. Dublin Bus operate 2 express routes (747 & 748) to Bus Aras (pronounced like "Bus Orus"), the long-distance bus station, with a combined frequency of every 10 minutes. Route 748 operates every 30 minutes and also serves Heuston railway station. Both routes charge €6.00 one-way. On the Aircoach and the 747/748 routes the drivers issue tickets. They accept notes and issue change. Allow 25-35 minutes to reach the city centre from the airport; longer still to get to the southern suburbs. For more information see the page . There are ticket machines outside arrivals hall and for 6Euro you can get a one day ticket that can be used on the 747/748 , this ticket can be used all day on any bus route in Dublin city and if on a one day visit , it can be used to return to the Airport. The driver CANNOT issue this ticket YOU MUST get it from THE MACHINE.. Arriving and Departing.
Local Buses
Dublin Bus also operate several local services which are considerably cheaply than the express buses. Most useful of these for visitors is probably route 16A which runs across the city centre. Note that the 16A runs only every 30 mins or so - check the current timetable at www.dublinsbus.ie. On regular buses including the 16A the fare can be paid in coins only - notes are not accepted. If you put more in the farebox you will receive a refund receipt, not cash. Luggage space on local services is very limited, you may be refused entry if you have too many bags. For more information see the page Public Transportation.
Taxis
The taxi fares quoted are guidelines. Taxi fares are metered and the fare will depend on time of day, traffic etc. One Euro is charged for each extra passenger on top of the metered fare. Despite this a taxi may be as cheap as the bus if there are 3 or 4 in your party and will be quicker. For more information see the page Taxis and Rental Cars.
