In May of 2008 my wife and I travelled to Las Vegas. We stayed one night at the Luxor and the other nights at the Venetian.
We arrived into Vegas and had no trouble driving our rental car to the Luxor. It was a nice place and it was impressive, but a little dated. We spent the night there and then moved to the Venetian the next day (we did this because the price dropped $200 per night from Monday to Tuesday).
The Venetian was amazing. Unbelievable. I am not really a world traveller by any means, but this was the nicest place I've ever stayed. The suite was perfect, the hotel itself was an attraction.
My wfie spent most of the days in a conference, while I was free to explore. For some reason the temperature in Vegas wasn't bad so I spent my days walking up and down the strip just checking out the other casino's. I had Carnegie Cheesecake at MGM (way good), saw a person arrested at Circus Circus (bet there are some prison's nicer than this place) and everything in between.
We ate dinner at the Bellagio Buffet which was really good. The food was all right, but the sheer size and options were overwhelming. Definitely recommend.
We would have liked to have seen some shows but there are so many to choose from and they are quite expensive, so we really just spent our time walking from casino to casino in amazement. We were really impressed with Caesar's ... it just went on and on and on. We did stop and see the Pirate Show ... packed ... and really not worth the wait and crowd. I would have preferred watching the fountains at the Bellagio a couple of more times then waiting to see the show at Treasure Island (neat casino, though).
It is definitely worth the trip to see Hoover Dam. It is such a massive engineering marvel that words can't honestly describe it.
We weren't able to see everything in Vegas by a long shot. More planning probably would have allowed us to spend more time doing things, but I think the best part was just seeing everything. Seeing the casinos, the people, the entertainers ... all free ... and very much a good time. I think I took a $150 to gamble, lost it all pretty quick ... but gambling wasn't for me, just seeing this location was well worth making the trip.
