This is a typical economy hotel. We took the place because we got a terrific price, my husband loves downtown, and we were looking for a place to sleep and keep our stuff. It's at the end of Fremont street, so you just walk out and you're right in the mix.
For me, I could take an $8 cab ride to the Sahara and pick up the monorail and hang out on the strip all day. Do not take the bus - the trip from the strip to downtown took 20 minutes for the bus to come and then a hot, crowded hour back (that was on two occasions, one evening and one afternoon). Once I figured out to buy an unlimited ride week pass ($20) on the monorail and just shelled out the $20 a day in cab fair and tips, I was much happier.
My comments are basically on the room, since I just used the place to sleep. We were in room 828 in the North Tower. The room was good size with two double beds (no king's left, but that didn't bother us). There is a funny little smell that I only noticed for about the first 10 minutes of the trip. The bathroom has the toilet and shower in one tight little room, and the sink and place to hang clothes outside. I like this so I can be gussying up while my husband's in the shower. Two large adjacent mirrors in the bathroom and a very large mirror that covers the wall outside the sink area - so if you need to see yourself, no problem. The water pressure, temperature, and drain was fine while we were there.
The beds were typical and comfortable enough. Maid service came by early (around 8:00 am - who's up by that time in Vegas?) and I was worried they would come in since there is no chain lock. It seems the little lock on the door works the same way (I found this out when I locked my husband out while I was in the shower). Be sure to put your do not distrub sign out before you go to bed. Our area was really quiet.
The decor was a little 80's and the view was tops of parts of the building and a vacant lot. Everything was very clean and kept up nice. Housekeeping brought me an iron about 20 minutes after I called, that seemed quick enough for me. THEY DO NOT PROVIDE HAIRDRYERS! That's a note for those of us big haired gals. The air conditioner worked very well, but it was a bit noisy. There was a small TV with just a few channels and refrigerator in the room.
Overall, I'd stay again if the price was nice and low.
