This is a typical economy hotel. We took the place because we got a terrific price, my husband loves downtown, and we were looking for a place to sleep and keep our stuff. It's at the end of Fremont street, so you just walk out and you're right in the mix.

For me, I could take an $8 cab ride to the Sahara and pick up the monorail and hang out on the strip all day. Do not take the bus - the trip from the strip to downtown took 20 minutes for the bus to come and then a hot, crowded hour back (that was on two occasions, one evening and one afternoon). Once I figured out to buy an unlimited ride week pass ($20) on the monorail and just shelled out the $20 a day in cab fair and tips, I was much happier.

My comments are basically on the room, since I just used the place to sleep. We were in room 828 in the North Tower. The room was good size with two double beds (no king's left, but that didn't bother us). There is a funny little smell that I only noticed for about the first 10 minutes of the trip. The bathroom has the toilet and shower in one tight little room, and the sink and place to hang clothes outside. I like this so I can be gussying up while my husband's in the shower. Two large adjacent mirrors in the bathroom and a very large mirror that covers the wall outside the sink area - so if you need to see yourself, no problem. The water pressure, temperature, and drain was fine while we were there.

The beds were typical and comfortable enough. Maid service came by early (around 8:00 am - who's up by that time in Vegas?) and I was worried they would come in since there is no chain lock. It seems the little lock on the door works the same way (I found this out when I locked my husband out while I was in the shower). Be sure to put your do not distrub sign out before you go to bed. Our area was really quiet.

The decor was a little 80's and the view was tops of parts of the building and a vacant lot. Everything was very clean and kept up nice. Housekeeping brought me an iron about 20 minutes after I called, that seemed quick enough for me. THEY DO NOT PROVIDE HAIRDRYERS! That's a note for those of us big haired gals. The air conditioner worked very well, but it was a bit noisy. There was a small TV with just a few channels and refrigerator in the room.

Overall, I'd stay again if the price was nice and low.

Great view of the strip. One bed was broken and creaked, the other one was fine. Only one lower plug in an accessible wall socket worked in the room, so the lamps did not work, the TV did. Stayed 4 nights, the last 2 nights the water in the shower became lukewarm and gave me a fear of having to take a cold shower for an early departure the next morning (it was OK just lukewarm and quick). The rate I paid was about as low as you could get at any level so I did not complain and was happy. Aggressive hotel staff doing roomchecks constantly, knocking on the door, trying to open the door etc. with no inside latch made me nervous and vigilant. A decent hotel, but with a somewhat hard to define grittyness. Strange aura from the staff, I dont know whats up.

stayed at the plaza july 27 thru july 29. check in was super slow and the girl at the reservation desk was busy flirting with another employee to worry about me. after a 35 minute wait it kinda ticked me off. we stayed in a smoking room [ i know shame on us for being smokers ] that was a smelly room. the good part was the room was "comped" but next time i will spend a few dollars extra to get a room with clean air. the slots were so tight and the food was only ok by vegas standards. i go to vegas ALOT and will NOT stay at the plaza again.

The restaurant is GREAT...the wait staff is wonderful, the food is good and the view....Oh my God, the View of the Fremont Street Experience. We had our wedding diner there, and everybody was satisfied.

Now, the suite we had booked on their website was not ready for us...my wife had to argue with them, and it's not until I came and after the '70's looking front desk attendant called me "sweetie pie" a couple times, that we were finally able to get the suite. The suite had a funny old motel smell, the bedspread was at least 10 years old...not a pretty seen. The bed wasn't that comfortable either...but hey, that was my wedding night, so we didn't care.

But, if I was to rate it for value in Las Vegas, I guess that you get what you pay for. It was at least half of what we would have paid on the "strip"! That was our first time in LV downtown. Overall we liked the experience...but next time I will pay more and stay in a newer hotel.

NOTE: If the Plaza would simply renovate their rooms and charge $10-15 more per night...I wouldn't hesitate to go back...but under the current room condition, I don't think so!

To sum things up.......Staff very friendly and helpful. The entire casino has a smell of smoke that goes back to the 70's. Security seemed pretty relaxed as I was plying at a BJ table and a severely intoxicated man was getting very loud, rude, and getting very upset when he lost a hand, banging his hands on the table. The rooms were ok, as said above smells like smoke, beds were not comforatable. A/C worked great. Room service was slow, it took almost 2 hrs. to get our food, and even took 45 rings to pick up. Location is right on Fremont St. I reccomend that you go and see the Fremont St. Experiance. Just dont leave Fremont, there are some shady charactors out and about. I was approached 4 times by panhandlers. Be cautious. Drinks, food, shows very cheap. I think beer was $2.25 vs. beer on the strip at 5 bucks. If you want to save money this is the place to stay. Definatly not for families.
