This was our first trip, we loved the downtown experience, we booked another trip this year, same time same place. We visited the strip, but being from the Mid-West it was a little to much for us. We loved it downtown, a little bit like home. We loved the light show, AREA 51 was great!

This was our 3rd time to Vegas, but our 1st time staying downtown. It was awesome, and fun. The parking was fine, but the bellmen were not much help. We got there at 930pm Vegas time, after a 20 hour car ride, and had to wait about 20 min to check in. But once we started checking in, it was fast service. The next day we had out a do not disturb sign, indicating that we didnt want maid service, yet they came in anyway...I hate when that happens. The pool is fabulous. Thought it would be warmer considering the temps in Vegas, but it was pretty cool water. Sunset is amazing to catch from the rooftop pool deck, right as its closing-> (8pm everyday, another disappointment) But the restaurant in the dome overlooking the fremont street experience was awesome. Great service, food is great too. A little pricey, but okay. Gambling though, I'd have to say was the best I've ever had. Great odds, and Ive never won anything, and I walked away profiting at least $250, not much, but enough to make me happy. But overall, I was more satisfied on this Vegas trip than any other. The Plaza is a great place to stay. and there breakfast lunch and dinner buffet are nice and not pricey. I would recommend this to anyone that wishes to stay in downtown Las Vegas..the light show is the main attraction downtown. The Plaza also has a sister hotel right across the street called the Las Vegas Club, the rooms are supposed to be the same, but the prices are slashed, and you still get to enjoy The Plaza's swimming pool and stuff, but the Plaza rooms were priced very nicely...Fourth of July weekend, 2 rooms, for 3 nights, for just under $300....SCORE

I had my doubts about the Plaza after reading some of the reviews here, but taking my college age son and roommate for their first trip needed to be cheap, and downtown Vegas is a bargain. We had the south tower room with a view of the mountains and the strip, it was great. Rooms were decent and had no problems with plumbing, although I suppose the maid service was a little slow. The bathroom area is pretty tight but not that unexpected in older hotels. Nothing fancy, just average, but I did love Fremont Street at night. Its like a big block party and very cozy. It doesn't have all the fancy mega casinos facades and fountains and roller coaster that the strip has, but so much easier to wander around and you can find cheaper gambling and better odds. The Plaza had lounge acts every night in the casino and a decent poker set-up. This is not a fancy super casino, its old school Vegas, but I like the feel.

The Plaza is a fun place!
Our time at Plaza was very nice and enjoyable. Upon checkin, asked for a view of Fremont St. & refrigerator, didn't have the view, did get a Deluxe room with fridge and on 8th-floor, North Tower, which was all non-smoking floor, very nice! Room was very clean, good-sized and our housekeeping very good! The shower had plenty of hot water and excellent pressure. The air-con worked great, too. Pool is on 7th floor, we only had to go down 1-floor, right there and you didn't have to parade through the whole hotel/casino and be visible to everyone, and pool area was nice! We ate at buffet twice, breakfast & lunch, both very good. We did eat at Champagne Brunch
on Sunday, really enjoyed that and meeting Larry Manetti from the former Magnum PI TV-Show & talking to him.
The food display was awsome and the varieties to choose from, so many! You got great entertainment with your meal.
We rented our car from Brooks in the Plaza Hotel lobby, very convienent. Easy to park and get around.
Hubby likes to play Poker and he did that a few nights and enjoyed playing at Plaza.
We had a great time, none of those horror stories, or bad experiences for us. We enjoyed our time there and will stay there again. It was a lot of fun!

If you are going to Vegas to party, gamble, and have fun and don't mind downtown this is the place. Very friendly staff though a non-smoking room is near impossible to get. We did have a room that overlooked Fremont street with a window that opened pleasantly (though the Zamphir wind pipes drove my husband insane). Great views, huge rooms. The rooftop pool is cool in retro kind of way. Eat at the Golden gate across the street (bay City diner or the deli) or Main Street Station (triple 7) for better food/value though the "dome" is cool and fancy (Deniro and Stone ate there in Casino). I'm not sure what people who didn't like this hotel expected for the price. Downtown is seedier and older and more smokey than the strip, but more real gamblers and less gawkers. Though I prefer staying at the strip (Imperial Palace-Flamingo area), this is a fun alternative that is very very reasonable.
