Do not stay at the Plaza for any amount of money (even free rooms). Funky smell upon walking into the casino. Rooms were filthy, moldy smelling , and DATED! I was so dissappointed in this hotel, but did not let that ruin our trip. Next time we would stay at any other downtown hotel except this one. My husband and I never took our shoes off on our carpet in our room, and I hope we did not bring home any "friends" (bedbugs). The downtown area is a blast and very clean. The Fremont Street Experience is awesome and very much a party atmosphere with out too much ruckus. I am not exaggerating any of this review, just telling you the truth. Find another hotel besides this one!!!

Okay, we know the prices are reasonable and you can only expect to get what you pay for. We have, in fact, stayed here on numerous occasions over the last twenty years or so. But this year they well and truly blotted their copy book. Here is a condensed description of our stay:
Booked via Internet, requested none-smoking room overlooking Fremont Street.
June 1st arrived at check in. Informed that the North Tower was temporarily out of use and we would have to stay in South Tower. We could, however, take advantage of their current "deal" on "luxury" suites at $15 per night extra.
Unfortunately there were no none-smoking suites, BUT, we were promised the suite had been completely cleaned and there would be no residue of smoke.
We asked to be placed as far away from the railway as possible - found ourselves overlooking it ...
The "suite", at first glance, appeared quite nice - though a coffee maker would have been handy - so we unpacked and sat a while to admire the view (which was quite spectacular). Then the train came, and came, and came ... all half mile of it.
We decided it was only a minor fault and would bear with it. Same applied to the badly stained carpets.
Two days later the wind rose - and so did our curtains! That was when we discovered the windows AND FRAMES appeared to be held in place with duck tape - which had dried and curled away.
Once again we decided not to make a fuss (well, we Brits are known for our tolerance, aren't we?)
Day four we came back late afternoon to find the maid coming out of our room, we exchanged pleasantries and went in - to find she had not touched the bedroom and bathroom even though the connecting door was wide open. This time we complained - and were informed that, as I had placed a "do not disturb" sign on the bedroom door around 9am (whilst I went to fetch coffee from the snack bar) it was hotel "policy" to disregard said room for that day???? We were not happy, but what could we do against such logic?
Day five. A family moved into the suite next door - we could hear them quite clearly. We went out for dinner, came back to find our "suite" reeking of cigarette smoke. It seeped in through the connecting door.
Well, that gives a brief idea of our stay. On checkout we voiced our dissatifaction - to no avail.
Then we returned home and checked our bill, and found they had charged us $30 per night...

Okay, I can hear you all shouting we should have complained earlier, louder etc. But we will never go back, not even if they offer us a "special deal".

I live in Las Vegas and have been visiting the Plaza for years. in that time I have seen it have more pointless changes and oddball repairs then ever nessesary. The company that operates the Plaza, Tamares, is clearly interested in amassing more properties then maintaining them. It all comes down to the dollar, and the Plaza is a sad casualty.
There is no excuse for for this.
A good example is the once grand Center Stage resturant. Why they closed it down and turned it into the monstrosity, "The Dome", is a blatent example of why Tamares has no respect for it's property. Here is a place where Robert Deniro and Sharon Stone dined in Casino! Where James Gandolfini and Julia Roberts dined in The mexican, and helen Hunt and Kevin Spacy had a scene in Pay It Forward. It was classy, refined, unpretentious, and a beautiful remnant of old Vegas. I was appauled when i saw the half assed sports memorablila (clearly borrowed from the Las Vegas Club) and cheap tv's above and all over the once beautiful leather booths. it's bad enough it's a sports bar, but they diden't even do it right.

Lombardies seems okay, so I won't say anything.

Some of the employees are alright, but others barley speak english and could not be more indifferent. These employees should be fired, and replaced with people who give a damn.

My last gripe is the the signage. The Plaza once had incredibly cool signage, but now all the yellow lights are burned out and the word Plaza is just red flickering neon. It has been this way for almost a month and I have yet to get a clear answer from anyone as to why it hasen't been tended to.

It's just embaressing. Here all the downtown hotels are really cleaning up there acts and really doing a good job ( Gold Spike, El cortez, Golden Gate) and the Plaza, which has amazing poential to become the Palms of downtown, is just left to rot for everyone to witness.

I put this all at the feet of Tamares and Nevagante.
They has no business running hotels and I will never speak well of them.

This is one of my favorite places to gamble. Just plain old school. So when they sent me some free nights I figured "what the heck..." I knew I wasn't going to get the Venetian, but the Plaza was right at the edge of young single professional limits. (Well within frat boy or budget partier limits though.) The room (#2006) was average size, and the sheets/blankets/towels were spotless, but the carpet was nasty and the decor was out of style in 1976. Worse was the lack of an in-room safe, so I had to lug cash around the whole time. One bright spot was the act in the "Aqua Lounge," a "Four-Tops", "Temptations", "Spinners" kind of cover act that was really good. The comps are also pretty generous and the cocktail waitresses are fast, I never had to wait for a drink. I will continue to frequent the Plaza as a gambler, but I don't think I'll be staying there again.
