I live in Las Vegas and have been visiting the Plaza for years. in that time I have seen it have more pointless changes and oddball repairs then ever nessesary. The company that operates the Plaza, Tamares, is clearly interested in amassing more properties then maintaining them. It all comes down to the dollar, and the Plaza is a sad casualty.
There is no excuse for for this.
A good example is the once grand Center Stage resturant. Why they closed it down and turned it into the monstrosity, "The Dome", is a blatent example of why Tamares has no respect for it's property. Here is a place where Robert Deniro and Sharon Stone dined in Casino! Where James Gandolfini and Julia Roberts dined in The mexican, and helen Hunt and Kevin Spacy had a scene in Pay It Forward. It was classy, refined, unpretentious, and a beautiful remnant of old Vegas. I was appauled when i saw the half assed sports memorablila (clearly borrowed from the Las Vegas Club) and cheap tv's above and all over the once beautiful leather booths. it's bad enough it's a sports bar, but they diden't even do it right.

Lombardies seems okay, so I won't say anything.

Some of the employees are alright, but others barley speak english and could not be more indifferent. These employees should be fired, and replaced with people who give a damn.

My last gripe is the the signage. The Plaza once had incredibly cool signage, but now all the yellow lights are burned out and the word Plaza is just red flickering neon. It has been this way for almost a month and I have yet to get a clear answer from anyone as to why it hasen't been tended to.

It's just embaressing. Here all the downtown hotels are really cleaning up there acts and really doing a good job ( Gold Spike, El cortez, Golden Gate) and the Plaza, which has amazing poential to become the Palms of downtown, is just left to rot for everyone to witness.

I put this all at the feet of Tamares and Nevagante.
They has no business running hotels and I will never speak well of them.

This is one of my favorite places to gamble. Just plain old school. So when they sent me some free nights I figured "what the heck..." I knew I wasn't going to get the Venetian, but the Plaza was right at the edge of young single professional limits. (Well within frat boy or budget partier limits though.) The room (#2006) was average size, and the sheets/blankets/towels were spotless, but the carpet was nasty and the decor was out of style in 1976. Worse was the lack of an in-room safe, so I had to lug cash around the whole time. One bright spot was the act in the "Aqua Lounge," a "Four-Tops", "Temptations", "Spinners" kind of cover act that was really good. The comps are also pretty generous and the cocktail waitresses are fast, I never had to wait for a drink. I will continue to frequent the Plaza as a gambler, but I don't think I'll be staying there again.

We stayed in Vegas a few nights on our way to L.A. Husband booked our rooms at the Plaza on Vegas.com for $25/night. We paid too much!!! I broke down and cried when we checked in. The place was so filthy and disgusting. One room had water and hair in the bath tub. The carpet in the room and halls was nasty!! The whole place smelled like smoke, and worse. We slept with our socks on, as we didn't want our bare feet on the floor. I woke up to a black bug crawling out of the weave of my sock!! We were supposed to have 3 nights there, but checking out early in the morning after the first night. Had it not been 117 degrees, we would have slept in the car. We moved to the South Point Resort & Casino, which interestingly is ranked 3 stars on Vegas.com, the same as the Plaza. While I would rank the Plaza as a negative 10 star hotel, the Plaza would get the highest rating in our book. This hotel isn't fit to house prisoners!!

We have stayed at the Plaza many times in the past and have always been satisfied until this past trip.
1. The elevators were very slow, only half of them worked and the ones that did work were so dirty I would not touch anything! They had been spit one or urinated on, or maybe worse if you want to imagine that.
2. We never took our flip-flops off in our room or the shower. I hate to think what the stains were on the floor.
3. We were there for 4 nights, and had 3 cold showers.
4. The hallways smelled like sewer.
5. Made reservations several months ago and requested non-smoking king size pool
view. Got a smoking, stinking, king, pool view with no water and no air working. It was 106 degrees!
6. Had to change rooms 3 times, and still was in a gross place. Wasted an hour and a half of our vacation time just getting a room.
7. Pool area had a bar that is not open on Mon. and Tues. This is Vegas, should be open everyday!
8. So called jogging track is so dirty and never been hosed off. Someone had spit a goober on it and was there the whole time we were there. Lovely to see that on a run. Also a large Vodka laying on track that no worker ever bothered to pick up.
9. Beds were VERY uncomfortable. Couldn't even snuggle down in the covers because I was afraid of the filth of the beds.
10. Had to use my perfume as air freshener just to be able to stand the smell.
Hope everyone has gotten the idea. We did not gamble one bit here as we were not giving them any more of our money.

I have stayed at this hotel 5 different times, and have enjoyed my stay there every time until this last stay. Although before staying there May 09 the last was in 04. Maybe changing owners to Boyd gaming may be the problem. Checking in and out was a nightmare. Never enough checkers. The room they had reserved for me was a smoking room, and "upgraded" ( for a price ) to a nonsmoking room. The fawcets on the sink was broken, and the shower only ran hot, or cold into a tub that barely drained. the wallpaper was torn, and the room was obviously ran down. Room was clean so maid service was okay. Was in the North tower, and had 6 elevators, which were most of the time broken, and not working. I waited one time on main floor for over 20 minutes before the one working at that time finally showed. As I was leaving with my luggage (6th floor) I had to wait through 5 elevators, that stopped and were full. I could use the stairs, and did to get down to main, but couldn't use them to get back up, as all doors but main were locked. When arriving to Vegas I was a day early, and tried to get a room at the Plaza, and was quoted a unreasonably high price, found a priced right, very nice room at the Nugget. I have as I said stayed at the Plaza several times, as I like it down town, and have recomended the Plaza to many many people, but seeing how it is ran currently I would never recomend anyone to stay there now. Goodness if my room was an upgrade, what was the room that I upgraded from like?
