Without a doubt the worst hotel experience of my life. First I was quoted a rate for a three night stay in a non-smoking room. I called at 6:00 am and spoke to Eddy on the day I was going to arrive to confirm I had a non smoking room. At 11:00 pm that night when I checked in I was told there were none. Then I was told for $15 more I could have a non-smoking mini suite. I took it. The room faced Fremont street and the noise in the room from there was deafening. the bathroom had mildew all over it. the hot water didn't work, the bathtub didn't drain, the heater was almost louder than the music on fremont street - but not quite, and finally there were cigarette burns on the carpet and furniture and the room smelled like smoke. All this for onIy $15 more a night!! I went to change rooms the next morning, but first I went to the concierge, then I had to go to security, then to a desk clerk ,and then to the hotel manager to get them to change it. I changed it back to a non smoking double room not facing fremont street. the new room was a bit better, but not much. Again the hot water was sporadic, the heater was loud, the room didn't smell like smoke until the next day when they took the no smoking sign off the room door next to mine and put the Marlboro man next door. My room filled with smoke from the guy in the next room. And if that wasn't enough, the bathtub didn't drain, the faucet in the tub wouldn't shut off, the toilet flapper wouldn't close on its own and had to be fixed manually after every flush. I was there with a group of kids and parents, and to a person the rest of the people on the team experienced the non draining tub and sproradic hot water. Plus the whole stay the elevators wouldn't work and at times the wait was over 30 minutes to get an elevator. Plus one guest was stuck inside an elevator for more than an hour! Hotel workers told us to use the employee/freight elevator but on Sunday one of my traveling companions was told by a security guard that she would arrest him if he set foot in that elevator and closed the door when the elevator came.
When I got my bill, I was charged a $20 a day upgrade fee for the entire stay for what I was originally told would be $15. The upgrade fee should have only applied to the first day also since I was moved back into a regular room. They wouldn't change it no matter what I said.
Overall I would say that the service was the worst I have ever seen. The billing practices border on illegal and at the least are dishonest. The disrepair in the hotel makes it unsafe and unsanitary. I honestly can't believe a place like this is still open.
and finally to put this whole experience in perspective, my original quote was as follows Friday - $79, Saturday - $89, Sunday -$49 - when I got my bill it was for $291. I think for nearly $300 for three nights you could probably find many hotels in Vegas that will have hot water, no smoking rooms, draining bathtubs, functioning elevators, funcitoning heater/AC units and management and staff t that might encourage you to come back. And if that is what you want, then avoid the Plaza.
