just got back last night-even in december vegas is jumping-here
is a view from our room #1814-decent room with a fridge, iron,
hairdryer-these rooms are not fancy like the golden nugget but
they are large & clean-saw their show 'viva las vegas'-they give
you a 2 for $5 show ticket at check in-cute show thats at 2 & 4 in
the afternoon-there is a mc donalds in the hotel that you can get
free coffee refills within 30 minutes-opens at 4am-best dinner
value downtown is at the california hotel(2 blocks away)-you can
get a fabulous $7.25 prime rib rinner with salad bar & cherries
jubilee-for a good breakfast buffet you only pay $5.25 at the
california hotel-best value downtown-we finally got to ellis island
for their $5 steak but now it is $7 but it includes a 20 ounce beer-
excellent steak also-new years eve they are charging $60 to get
in the freemont experience we found out-that's got to be fun in
vegas for new years eve-we love staying downtown, but we always get a rental car to go all around in the day-this trip we went to red rock canyon-so very beautiful-we had a wonderful
stay this trip-hope to be back in may 2008, god willing!!!!!

We stayed at the Plaza on a Friday night in October. This was a planned trip and the next three nights we stayed up on the strip. The Plaza location is great right at the end of Freemont Street. Our room overlooked the street, but you really couldn't see a whole lot because of the roof. Check in was fast, but the clerk was very short with us, and didn't have much of a sense of humor. The room was very clean, but also very outdated. The bathroom was very small and old. The Casino was a real suprise. I really liked the casino, of course it always helps when you win. We ate at the $7.77 buffet. The food was ok, especially for the price. The only real bad thing I can say about the Plaza was the elevators. We were on one of the top floors and with only one bank of elevators that stopped at almost every floor, the wait was a long one. Overall I would say the Plaza is good, considering what you pay for. If you are used to staying in the fancy hotels on the strip, you may want to avoid this one.

Loved staying downtown, but oh, the poor decrepit Plaza. Good price, divey hotel. Poker and Bingo staff rock! Will stay at the Golden Nugget or Binions next time, though.

I've stayed at the Plaza Hotel about a dozen times dating back to the mid 1990s - it's always been a good place to stay in a great location, if you like downtown Las Vegas.

This time around I hadn't been there in about 6 years and I wondered how it had changed since being sold by the former owner Jackie Gaughan.

Well, not much has changed. The hotel is older and a little more shabby but is still clean and acceptable. You don't come to Vegas to stay in the room and I didn't even turn on the TV. My room was about $45 and fronted the Fremont Street Light Show. I thought it was quiet enough but of course I was on the 16th floor which helped.

The casino is OK, nothing special, and they only have 1 hotel restaurant now which serves a $7.77 buffet all day long. I ate there once and I would say it was worth $7.77 but not much more. If you want the best buffet in downtown Las Vegas walk 2 blocks to the Main Street Station and you will be amazed.

They used to have a nice steakhouse overlooking Fremont Street but they turned it into a sports bar that was totally deserted when I walked in there, looks like a bad decision to me.

The best part of the Plaza, in fact of all of downtown, is that you can reasonably walk to 10 different places in a matter of a few blocks, instead of on the Strip where it could take you 10 minutes to walk from 1 giant property to the next. The Fremont light show is a lot of fun and they have many different offerings. You can walk down the street and drink.

The Plaza isn't a place that will take your breath away or you'll tell your grandchildren about, but it's definitely worth the low price, it's clean and fairly quiet, and is within easy walking distance of lots of places downtown.
