I must say, from what I was hearing, I expected a lot worse. The room was clean, the staff friendly. The pool was under renovation so we got to use the Luxor's next door and never had any problems. Overall all I would say this hotel is fine, not great, just fine. However, the casino is a maze and it lacks the visual appeal or interest that the other hotels in Vegas have. I stayed here during the NBA All Star weekend...that's a whole other story.

“It's got one benefit”

Excalibur Hotel & Casino

If you're going to Vegas, you spend very little time in your hotel. Other than crashing out for a few hours, it's pretty rare you'd stay for hours on end in your room. If you're going on a romantic getaway, or even if you're going with your partner, then you should probably pick another hotel. This place is a bit of a tip. It's dirty and messy, and the casino is sub par. From the outside, it looks cool, there's no doubt, I can see the appeal, but on the inside its a step down on the strip. The hallways were cluttered with old food carts that seemed to sit there for days, we had to switch rooms a couple of times due to faulty doors, and non working amenities. However, if you're going to go down with a group that's more concerned with just partying then the Excalibur is fine, it's dingy, dark, unimpressive and allows you to get out of your hotel quicker and into Vegas, 'cos trust me, the Excalibur ain't it.

I liked it - not you're high class hotel, but we were not looking for high class. We were looking for a respectable place to store our baggage while we were out on the town, and a place to sleep for a few hours now and again. The bed was a bit hard for my tastes (but I like pretty fluffy beds...), but other than that it was perfect. Shower worked well, the curtain kept out the light when pulled shut, AC worked. I loved the location of Excalibur first of all - a moving walkway practically delivers you to New York New York's doorstep, and Luxor and Mandalay Bay are connected through the other side. All our staff interactions were good and nice. Buffet wasn't quite Monte Carlo quality, but it was decent. And very big - lots of food! I liked the casino, plenty to do for the most part. Next time we go back, I'm more than happy with staying here again. A good home base.

The Excaliber is a fantastic value hotel. Hands down the best in Vegas. Why you may ask? Well here are the advatages and disadvatages:

Advantages:

- I paid $68 for my room. I received comps as follows: $25 food comp, 2 spa passes (value $20x2) and $30 table comps. I also received lots of coupons upon check in. Therfore my room was basiclly free. (Book hotel on their website)

The room was decent and clean.

Shower was nice and clean.

Spa was extremely nice with great workout machines and free weights.

Great location

Great for kids

Best Value hotel in Vegas (actually anywhere)

Entertaiment

Disadvantages:

Some may not like the atmosphere (I did not mind it)

It is a "value" hotel with no bells and whistles (other than spa)

No dance club

This stay was a special event "First Time to Vegas, 50th Birthday party". However, I was NOT notified of any renovation to the building UNTIL I arrived. I was assured that I would not be disturbed, however, I could switch rooms. At SIX AM the next morning, I learned that the renovation was directly above us. My guest and I played "NAME THAT POWER TOOL" until nine in the morning. I called to switch rooms for the next evening as there was no way we could sleep through this racket again. I was told there were no rooms available! After requesting a manager I was eventually moved fifth floor, same tower. No comps were offered nor apologies rendered for this inconvenience, I demanded a discount (hardly worth the headache) off the first night in the room. I had a delivery ordered to the room. It did not shown up as requested upon our arrival (confirmed by staff). I made the trip downstairs to investigate. I spotted the gift, a $100 custom cookie basket, cookiesbydesign. com, behind the desk FULLY IN TACT. I spoke to the person at the desk and said I would like to receive it myself in person as they did not deliver upstairs as promised. She refused & rudely said, "We can't just give stuff out you know!” I requested the delivery brought up. The cookie basket arrived upstairs promptly with two of the items broken in half! I was horrified! This was supposed to be a present, now broken in shambles due to careless staff! Again, my complaint was brushed off by a manager on staff explaining to me that "There was NO WAY to KNOW whether or not this package was in this state upon delivery." *SHOCK* I had just been closer then five feet to the item five minutes earlier! On a final note, room service trays were left in the halls for two days with leftover meat on the trays beginning to ROT on MULTIPLE FLOORS!!! This is unsanitary and outrageous! AVOID! Most smoky/dirty casino in VEGAS!
