Between the dates of 10 June - 24 June 2009 I stayed at the Excalibur Hotel. Before I booked I looked at some of the reviews on this site and was not sure whether to book this hotel. Well I can tell you I did and was very happy I did so. On arrival to the hotel I checked in straight away and was upgraded to the Widescreen room on 25 Floor (at no extra cost), overlooking the pool area. The room was very clean and tidy. The hotel has been looked after very well. Also it has one of the best buffets on the strip. All you can eat, all day (07:00 - 22:00) for $25.00 each. The food is also very good.

The only thing that I could not understand was why the pool was only open between 09:00 - 18:00. After this time you could not even sit outside by the bar area in the evenings. The only thing I could come up with is that they want you in the casinos. Anyway the hotel is in one of the best locations and has walkways to Luxor, MGM, New York New York. The food and drink is priced well, but like all the hotels you can expect to pay between $5.00 - $10.00 for a beer at the bar. The Excalibur does have some good deals on drink in there shops such as 2 beers for $6.00. Because this is a three star hotel things are slightly cheaper here. Whilst in Las Vegas I went to every hotel on the strip and if I was to come back I would still pick this hotel again to stay at. Also I booked this holiday on last minute.com and only paid £1400 for 2 adults flying with Virgin (Direct Flights) from London Gatwick. This also included the hotel for 2 weeks (not bad). : - )

Fantastic sized room in Tower 2 overlooking New York, New York. Probably not the swankiest on the Strip, but an amazing base to experience Vegas. Nice pool as well.

Had a great time! Skip the buffet, though.

I'd rate the Excalibur a hidden gem. As others said, overall the hotel is old and a bit outdated compared to others on the strip, but the rooms were very clean and comfortable, with nice linens and pleasant service. I have stayed at some of the "nicer" hotels on the strip and enjoyed the experience, but next time I think I'll go back to Excalibur. A great location: it's connected via walkways to some of the newest and funnest hotels (MGM, Mandalay Bay, NY/NY). More importantly, it's within short walking distance to some important amenities for a budget-conscious traveler: Walgreens/CVS and a convenience/liquor store. Excalibur's atmosphere was relaxed. The casinos were low-key but fun. The pool was terrific. It wasn't glamorous by any means, but it well taken care of and well stocked with lots of chairs and towels. The pool was a relaxing place to hang out and not at all a "scene." BTW, Excalibur offers an adults-only pool for those of us who are not on a family vacation. Last but most important! Unless you have kids or have a seriously dull palate, avoid the Excalibur buffet like the plague!!!!!!!!! I am not picky and love a bargain, but after one day, I could not bring myself to eat there again. Very disappointing. The food was pasty, bland, and warmed over. Think no-name frozen macaroni and cheese and microwaved pizza. Worse, they served the same yucky food at lunch AND dinner. Just don't do it. Follow the advice of a person we met who stays at Excalibur all the time: have breakfast at Luxor, lunch at New York/New York and dinner at Mandalay Bay. You won't be sorry!
