I've stayed at the Sahara my last three visits to Vegas. By no means do I think it is one of the better hotels on the Strip, but the price of the rooms are unbeatable. For the Sahara, the old saying "You get what you pay for" is certainly true. For about $35/night, you'll have a very standard (but dated) hotel room and casino that offers all the regular entertainment plus VERY cheap ($1) blackjack tables... probably the cheapest on the Strip. The monorail has a stop at the Sahara, which is very convenient for getting around seeing as the hotel is situated on the far northern end of the strip away from all the action. I would recommend spending an extra $10 or so a night to upgrade to a deluxe or premium room in either the Alexandria tower or the Tangiers tower over a standard room in the older Tunis tower. The casino itself is smaller than most of the new mega-hotels, but I've actually come to appreciate that as it is very easy to navigate. It is old and smells smoky. The staff I encountered (aside from those at the Player's Club desk) was very friendly and helpful. Room service was great, food was good and very affordable compared to most Vegas hotels. The pool is simple, nothing glamorous, but usually it's not crowded. Overall, if you are looking for glitz and style, than the Sahara is probably not the right fit for you. But, if you don't mind an older hotel that can offer all the basics + some extras at a very bargain price - then I definitely suggest you give it a try.
