carpets with tape on them in the casino-- toilets in the casino very basic and more importantly --the pit bosses are in no way friendly and totally disinterested in the punters having a good time which i thought was the objective when trying to lure tourists to your hotel --as for the reputation about giving the best comps i think you will find that is a totall myth--i was with someone who stayed there a couple of times before and they gave him a free room which is standard anyway in vegas once you get a players card and are prepared to gamble for a few hours each evening but they also said they would make my room complimentary as i had a players card from two years ago if i was to re-use it which i did --we both gambled quite a lot --5 hours each per night and we put 400 dollars in extras on the rooms accounts in the belief (from previous vegas visits to tropicana) that it would be complimentary as we gambled a lot of money relatively speaking and when we checked out they did not have the figures correct for what amount of time we were gambling and the amount and then basically told my friend that my room was part of his complimentary extras which is fine but it means they gave me then no credits for gambling which i didnt have to do and he got no extras for his gambling time/money which he didnt have to do as we could have eaten and gambled elsewhere.--staff on reception were totally inefficient and frustrating to deal with even though we had vip check-in through my friend. He will never stay there again and he goes to vegas 4 times a year as he lives in the states and i will never stay there either when i visit vegas -- the rooms in fairness are clean in the tower areas but the decor carpet and curtains are depressing in all rooms --my final advice is stay somewhere better get a players card and you will get the same comps if your prepared to gamble ---if your not gambling just pay a bit extra and enjoy a better hotel.

We, did not stay at the tropicana and never will. I was very upset to pay 369.00 for so called vip tickets to the Sopranos show, we were lied to and did not received everything which was stated in the discription for the vip tickets, tickets were bought in advance and they were also a birthday gift. Tickets, were not in the computer ,then four tickets which we thought were all four reservations were for only two we had to go back again for the other two, the show started before we were taken to our seats which were general admission seats then we were lied to they said we had to have been there 1hour before the show and I had my e-mail confirmation stating we could not pick up tickets no earlier then 6:30 p.m and the show started at 7:00 anyway show was good of what we could see for 369.00 dollars sitting in the very back of the room with a big pole blocking our view would not recommend this hotel for anything. Thank you

Great older hotel. Friendly staff, good food, best pool in Las Vegas.

Our room was spacious and the tub was huge -- could almost swim in it. It was nice to have a refrigerator. The pool area was fantastic. Waterfalls (that you can walk under), hot tubs hidden away, and an island to swim to. The pool alone is worth the visit. The food in the steak house was exceptional and was reasonably priced. The 24 hour cafe had great views and good breakfasts. There is a massive stained glass ceiling over part of the casino that is definitely Old Las Vegas. I liked it so much, I'm using it as my "name".

My only concern is that the televisions in the rooms are small and ancient -- needs upgraded. Also, it does not have 24 hour room service.

I stayed in the garden view rooms. There were about 3 or 4 live moths in the room. Naturally, I called the front desk and asked to be moved. I walked down to the lobby and got a set of keys. They moved me to another room in the same area. Not surprisingly, that room also had several moths. Called and walked back to the front desk. This time they "upgraded" us to the tower room. No moths, but it was very worn. Shower was cracked and a bit dirty. The next morning as we were loading up the car, a swarm of moths flew towards us. I will not be staying at the Tropicana in the future.

After reading some reviews, I was a bit concerned about this hotel, especially the Garden Rooms. When I arrived at about 8pm, I was upgraded to the Island Tower for free with an apology (?) I was on the 5th floor, but still had a great view of the airport, Luxor and Mandalay Bay. My only complaint is the fact that the air conditioning was insufficient during the afternoon. It was about 95 degrees outside and about 79 degrees inside. This problem resolved itself when the sun went down and the room cooled to about 74 degrees. The bathroom was perfect. The bathtub was huge and the water pressure was strong when using the shower. The casino itself, I admit, is old looking and becomes half-empty by about 11pm. Using the monorail is a good idea, and it is easy to get to if you take the escalator by the "Lucky $20" promotion onto the pedestrian walk to the MGM Grand. The Garden Cafe has the best meatloaf (wrapped in bacon). The Garden area is amazing and surrounds two pools and three hot tubs. At one point I was in a hot tub watching a bird build a nest in a tree. The main pool opens rather late, around 9am, but you can walk through the garden area before then. The Garden rooms seem to have stairwells that lead directly into the garden/pool area, so I could see that actually being a plus. Overall, the experience was great. If you are on a tight budget, I would highly recommend spending an evening or two visiting the casinos and gift shops on Freemont Street. For example, a bottle of water at the Tropicana: $2-3. On Freemont street: 2 for $1. The free concerts on Freemont Street at night aren't bad either.
