After reading some reviews, I was a bit concerned about this hotel, especially the Garden Rooms. When I arrived at about 8pm, I was upgraded to the Island Tower for free with an apology (?) I was on the 5th floor, but still had a great view of the airport, Luxor and Mandalay Bay. My only complaint is the fact that the air conditioning was insufficient during the afternoon. It was about 95 degrees outside and about 79 degrees inside. This problem resolved itself when the sun went down and the room cooled to about 74 degrees. The bathroom was perfect. The bathtub was huge and the water pressure was strong when using the shower. The casino itself, I admit, is old looking and becomes half-empty by about 11pm. Using the monorail is a good idea, and it is easy to get to if you take the escalator by the "Lucky $20" promotion onto the pedestrian walk to the MGM Grand. The Garden Cafe has the best meatloaf (wrapped in bacon). The Garden area is amazing and surrounds two pools and three hot tubs. At one point I was in a hot tub watching a bird build a nest in a tree. The main pool opens rather late, around 9am, but you can walk through the garden area before then. The Garden rooms seem to have stairwells that lead directly into the garden/pool area, so I could see that actually being a plus. Overall, the experience was great. If you are on a tight budget, I would highly recommend spending an evening or two visiting the casinos and gift shops on Freemont Street. For example, a bottle of water at the Tropicana: $2-3. On Freemont street: 2 for $1. The free concerts on Freemont Street at night aren't bad either.
