We spent 4 days/3 nights in January, at the Tropicana with NO complaints. We were looking for a cheap getaway to Vegas. We wanted to stay directly on the Strip. After checking discounted airfare and hotel packages, we choose the Tropicana. With the package deal, we only paid a total of $30.00 for the entire 3 nights! What a great price. And for this cheap price, we did not expect a 4 or 5 star hotel. So we arrived at the Tropicana in the correct mindset of expecting to get what we paid for. We did not have the false expectations of thinking that we would receive a 4 or 5 star room.
We arrived for check-in at 3:00 p.m. There was a line of people waiting to check-in. It took us about 20 to 30 minutes standing in line before we reached the check-in counter. Sure, we would of loved to not of had to wait so long,,,,,but then again, we were only paying a low price per night, located directly on the Strip,,,,,,so the wait was no problem for us. We simply enjoyed meeting and talking with the other very friendly people standing in line. Once at the check-in counter the counter person was very friendly, joking, laughing and explained in detail what was available for us to use and do on-site. Our reservation was correct, and we were checked in with courtesy and professionalism.
We knew we had a discounted room, and we were placed into the #4000 tower, on the top floor (third floor). We walked through the casino, past the gift shop to get to the elevator to our room. It was not a very long walk. When we opened our room, we were VERY Pleasantly surprised. It was large, bright, in good condition, clean without any smells (we had a non-smoking room). The Tropicana is an older building. So, though not modern, it is also NOT in a state of shambles. Sure, there are a few things that look older, such as the well-used carpet in the hallways. Not worn out, or shabby, just well used and missing the new shine. Our room had two Queen size beds, both comfortable. A table, chairs, end table, vanity with large mirror on wall, Television center and a large clothes closet. An ironing board and iron was provided in the closet. The bathroom was large, bright, modern and very clean. It had a bathtub with a stand-up shower in it, with a shower curtain. Plenty of water pressure, and plenty of hot water. First night there we had just enough towels, soap, cups, shampoo, etc., for just one clean up per day. We like to take more than one shower a day, so we asked the maid service to provide more of everything, and they were happy to do so, and kept us well supplied every day there. Our room also had an outside balcony that we got to through a large glass sliding door. The balcony had two chairs and a coffee table..........Now, lets talk about the view......, basically NONE. They called it a "Garden View", but all it basically looked directly out on is the indoor swimming pool building, with a sidewalk between it and you. We had to lean out over balcony and look left in order to see the tree lines of the outside swimming pool areas. So, I will say if you need a view you may want to ask for a room in one of the other towers, which are said to have great views,,,,,,,,,of course at a higher price. One other thing, in our room, we only had a fan speed control, but no thermostats. We could not choose to change from heat to cool or set the specific temperature we wanted. All we could do is adjust the amount of airflow of what ever they were pumping through the heating/cooling vents. This may or may not be a concern for you............Over all a very clean, fresh smelling and nice room.
The Tropicana is located directly on the Main Strip, just about the last major Casino on the south end of the Strip. All in all a great location. It has skybridges to several other major casinos; public bus stop is directly out front of hotel. We bought 24-hour buss passes, good for ALL of Las Vegas, not just the Strip for only $5.00! It is easy to get from casino to casino using your unlimited ride 24-hour pass, highly recommended way to go. You may use the monorail by using the skybridge to MGM and then the monorail station. I think we paid $15 for a one day unlimited rides pass for that day of operation only. We found the monorail to not really be that convenient. The bus would drop us off directly in front of most casinos, but the monorail required a lot of walking as it does not stop at every casino, but it is your choice. And of course taxi and limo service is just outside the main door of hotel. Also, there is a McDonalds and a small AM/PM Store within about a block.
All of the Dealers and people who worked at Tropicana were very friendly. Also, we found the people who stay at Tropicana to be very down to earth and friendly people very eager to make new friends. We met many new friends there to go and do other tourist events with. Real people having real fun, without worry of social stature.
Checkout was very fast, no waiting and no problems. We checked out at 10:00 a.m.
I recommend the Tropicana highly for a budget priced, major and famous casino, directly on the Strip. We will go back without any hesitation.......Enjoy!
