My boyfriend and I went to Vegas for the first time Oct 2-7th. We had origanally choose to stay at one of the fancier hotels, but later decided on the Monte Carlo because of the good price. We were more than happy with what we got!!! The Monte Carlo is deffiantly not one of the top notch luxary hotels, but it was exactly what we needed.
The rooms were basic, but suffecient. We paid extra to have a high room /strip view. Not necessary, but it was a great view. The room was a bit on the small side. Similar to what you would have at a Holiday Inn, but it was clean and enjoyable. The bed was comfortable and the sheets clean. Did not enjoy the 9.50 service charge per day for the "luxary's" of the room, such as room service, 2 small waters fresh daily, and local newspaper daily. I was highly impressed with the fact that the shower was probably the best that I had ever been in, in a hotel. Great water pressure and no lack of hot water, even when the 2 other people in the room with me showered first. Overall, great value for room.
Although I was in awe over some of the other hotels such as the bellagio, and venetian, I would stay at the Monte Carlo any day over them! The Monte Carlo is a smaller hotel/casino, but for us that was exactly what we wanted. I never got lost in our hotel, like I did in the majority of the other larger hotels. By the end of our first night there I basically new where all the resturants and food courts were, and could easily make it up to our room within a few minutes. In some of the larger hotels, such as the MGM, Bellagio and Venetian you can literrally get lost and walk around for an hour before you find what you are looking for. Such a waste of time when you are in Vegas
Location was GREAT!!!!! I loved where we were!! Not quite in the middle of the strip, but directley accross the street from the bus stop at the MGM Grand where you could buy day and week passes. Also, directly across from a couple ticket stands where you could get discount tickets for shows for the day. This was always our first stop where we would make our plans for the day. Last, there is a Denny's right across the street where you can get breakfast for cheap!
As for the resturants in the hotel, we had the opportunity to visit 2. We ate lunch at the newley branded "Pub". Ordered 2 build your own burgers and 2 domestic beers a peice. The burgers were probably the best we ever had, HUGE, and just overall delious!! They however do not list their prices on the menu, and this should have been my first clue to try something different! The burger and fries were 25.00 a peice and 5.00 domestic draft beers. This came to a 75.00 dollar tab!! Was not expecting that! We did also go to "The Buffet" for breakfast one morning and it was good. A lot to choose from, but nothing to extraordianary. Prices are deffaintly cheaper for the buffet during the week.
Over all, we had a GREAT experience at the Monte Carlo and would deffeintly stay there again because of the value that we got for our money, the size of the hotel, and the great location! Would not recommend it to the 20 something that is going to Vegas to stay up all night and party because for the most part it was fairly quite, but would deffaintly recommend it to the people who are there to sight see and take Las Vegas in and get a good rest at night!
