This was our second tiime in LV and a trip we were very much looking forward too as it was a celebration of our 5th anniversary. After much debating back and forth, we booked the Venetian's concierge level in the Venezia tower.
We had spent time in the Venetian our last trip but had stayed at the Ritz Carlton out in Henderson. Well, let me tell you we had a hard time debating which was better!
The Venetian was everything and more than we hoped for. We were on the concierge level and everthing about our stay was first class from the accomodations (nicer than the website pix - room was navy blue and gold, not red and gold), huge, gorgeous bathroom with separate tub and shower and the shower had some extra jets which you could aim at your lower back. All the bathroom amenities you could ask for were there. It was the first trip where we didn't bother packing a blow dryer or shampoo/conditioner or lotions. Towels were plentiful, thick and large enough to actually wrap yourself up in and the bathrobes were big and fluffy. They even provided slippers, which normally we never use but they were so soft, we wore them constantly in the room. Make-up vanity came in handy for me, much easier to use than trying to stand infront of a sink mirror.
The room itself was extremely large, larger than a 1 bedroom apartment we used to own LOL. We had a strip view, facing the volcano at the Mirage (although you do see a lot of parking decks below and the back of Denny's and McDonalds but no big deal). Views of mountains beyond too and the curtains were the best black-outs we ever encountered - in the morning not a speck of daylight crept in. 3 TV's (flat screen, even in the bathroom).
Furnishings and decor were lovely and interesting. There wasn't quite enough drawer space, but I can't remember ever being at a hotel which did.
We had requested a refrigerator prior to arriving, which came in handy since my husband turned out quite sick the fist few days (so ill we had to go to a 24 hour medical center for antibiotics, not so funny then but kind of amusing in retrospec). Being able to keep cold bottled water at hand was very convenient. The concierge lounge provided free water, but when taking pills, cold water certainly tastes better to wash them down.
There was a pillow menu available for $20 a week extra which I wish I had taken advantage of, the bed was rather comfortable but the pillows were a bit too soft for my need. There was also a bath menu (albiet pricey) where they will come and draw you a luxurious bath which we did not take advantage of either but they all sounded really enjoyable. We did NOT touch the mini-bar for 2 reasons. First, of course is the price and second we had heard if you so much as look at it cross-eyed it will charge you, but it was well stocked, if you enjoy paying $5.00 for a bag of chips.
Service was impeccable. The concierge staff were very helpful in everyway possible, from giving us directions to the medical center, to getting us dinner reservations. Continental breakfast came with the room (pastries, cereals, mini-bagels, cream cheese, fresh fruit, juices, coffee, tea, etc. they even made me lattes every morning). 4pm was tea time with scones, jam and devonshire cream. At 5pm they served any mixed drinks or wine you wanted, with canapes, nuts, assorted cheese and crackers in their lounge area. At any time of the day you could go to the concierge lounge and get free drinks and they had a large flat screen TV on with the news playing at all times. It was a lovely space to have breakfast or a snack and meet other guests, if so inclined.
Maid service was great too - they always stocked us up on supplies and when we saw them they were very sweet and friendly. Turn-down provided 2 lovely boxes of chocolates, 1 for each of us.
The room itself was quiet as can be, which surprised us. You heard nothing from the street because the property is set so far back. There was only once we heard any noise from another room - one night at around 3am it sounded like the shower upstairs kept going on and off for about 15 minutes - it was weird actually. But it was the only time in 8 nights we heard a peep from anywhere.
The property is just amazing and there is a private pool area for the Venizia guests, which looks like an italian garden, with hot tubs. While it does not get the sun that the main pool does (it is in a courtyard and therefore, in shade much of the day) it is a beautiful quiet area to relax, and get a bit of sun.
Restaurant selection was suburb. We ate in Delmonico twice and they both were remarkable meals. Also tried Bouchon, Canaletto, Tintoretto, Taqueria Caronita, Grand Lux Cafe, Valentino Grill and Pinot Brassiere. Many were amazing (Canalatto for dinner stands out and Pinot Brassiere's breakfast was great, as we had eventually grown tired of the continental breakfast after 5 days LOL). There is also a small food court, with decent choices (the deli there made a wonderful authentic chicken soup which my husband enjoyed while ill).
The shops area is a lovely way to spend some time and not all of the stores are outrageous in price. Great gelato in St. Marks Square too. There are live performances of opera, juggling and such throughout the day which are enjoyable to watch and if so inclined, you can take a gondola ride too (we didn't).
The Canyon Ranch Spa was a real treat. While outrageously expensive, for special occassions it's worth spending the money on yourself. We indulged in an 80 minute couples aromatherapy massage on our anniversary. Spent time in the whirlpool and sauna beforehand (separate facilities for men and women). Everything was clean, well organized and supervised. The massuers were very professional and knowledgeable. Tip is included in the price (as it should be for the price).
We went back again on the day we checked out for a regular 80 minute massage which we actually got FOR FREE because there was construction going on right in back of the room we were in, jackhammers etc. and it was very distracting and un-soothing. Our massuers had to leave the room to find out what was going on twice and told us to see the manager on the way out. We were shocked when told the service would be on the house - I expected maybe 1/2 price. All I can say is THAT is GREAT customer service. We were incredibly impressed.
I could go on and on about the Venetian. I'm sure I've left out a ton of things. I highly recommend it tho it certainly was pricey, but again, for the level of service and amenties we received, we were more than pleased and it stood up in quality to the best hotels we've been to. We have some photos to share, but haven't sifted thru them yet, so I'll post those as a followup.
