Went to the Venetian with some girlfriends for New Years Week 2008. This hotel is old and worn out and desperatly needs updating. The rooms are faded, many problems with the room itself.

When I checked in, I noticed the mini-bar door was ajar. Looked closer to find that it was broken and wouldn't close. I called the operator and she said an engineer would be right up to fix it. 1 HOUR LATER - the engineer arrived. he said "yup, it's broken" and said they'd have to replace it. I asked when and he said "lots of things more important than this to fix first".

The room itself had seen better days, handles missing off of cabinets, stains on the carpets and a strange sounding drain that was so loud it woke us both in the middle of the night....and no one was using the water!

Then the next day the door to the safe wouldn't close, it was locked while open! I called downstairs and was told I would have to wait for someone to come as a guest had to be present when working on the safe. My friend stayed in the room and waited for 3 hours, calling frequently to check on status. They finally came and fixed it but it wasted most of her day.

Overall, this should have been a great hotel - for $350 a day, it should have been terrific. But they've obviously spent more time and attention on their new property next door - The Pallazzo - which is quite nice. When we booked spa appointments at the Canyon Ranch Spa at the hotel, we arrived to check in only to be told we had to use the spa next door at The Pallazzo and it was a 5 minute walk to the other location. Upon arriving, we were told we were late for our appts. and would forfit the time! The spa is like a factory with so many people running through it was the least relaxing time I've ever had.

The only good thing I'll say about the Venetian is the restaurants still seem to be holding up well. Mario Betali's B&B restaurant was lovely, great food, pleasant staff, the best thing that happened to us all week.

So in closing, skip The Venetian unless they renovate and update the old gal soon.

It was my 50th birthday so we decided to go to Vegas to celebrate. We went Dec. 26-30, 2008. We’ve always stayed at the MGM properties so we didn’t know what to expect from the Venetian. It was absolutely beautiful. Our room was clean, beautifully decorated and comfortable. The check in for Invited Guest was quick and friendly. Dinner at Delmonico’s Steakhouse was delicious! The check in person must have told the restaurant is was my birthday because they gave me dessert with a candle!

The place is huge and it’s easy to get turned around, but once you get your bearings, it’s fine. The only think that was BAD was the lines for the slot club – Club Grazie. They were horrible. We always had to wait at least ½ hour. Even early in the morning. Their slot cards would stop working on a regular basis. I went through 5 while we were there.

Overall, it was wonderful and we’ll definitely stay there in the future!

We went to Vegas in early December for a quick trip, and the price was right for the Venetian so we booked it for 3 nights. I must say the hotel is gorgeous and the shops and restauants are amazing, but I wouldn't pay any more than a discounted rate to stay there.

The room was the best part of the hotel; large , clean, great features, good views, and the bed was one of the comfiest beds I have ever slept in. The TVs were nice too.

The hotel was huge! Lots of walking, but that didn't bother us. It was entertaining to just walk around and people watch. We ate at the Gran Lux, Delmonico, and the sushi place (in the palazzo). All very tasty! They were pricy, but everything was. Bottled water was 5 dollars so beware.

My only real complaint and the reason I won't go back was the nausiating old lady perfume smell being pumped throughout the hotel. It was absolutly horrible. Thankfully it wasn't really in the rooms, but everywhere else, including the restaurants. I would honestly rather smell the cigarette smoke. I'm not a complainer but it was just really bad for me. We actually partied one night in Planet Hollywood, and it was much more our style and didn't have the smell;)

We visit Vegas frequently and stayed at the Venetian on our last trip. We were eagerly looking forward to staying there again. Unfortunately, this visit was not as flawless as the first.

Like others who have posted recently, we arrived in the main lobby but were immediately escorted to the check-in area on the 10th floor of the Venezia Tower. The staff member behind the counter made a hard push for us to upgrade to the concierge level for an extra $100 per night. I found the routine amusing, since he kept emphasizing it was a one-time special being offered at that moment. I had been receiving e-mails about the upgrade offer for quite some time and am sure I also read it on their general website. After declining several times, he let it go.

I had reserved a strip view room and requested a remodeled room, which is what we had on our last visit. Upon arriving to our room, we discovered we were in the Venezia tower in a non-renovated room. Tired from travel, we decided to let it go and not trek down to the check-in area again to request a change. The room was fine but featured traditional decor, a smaller sitting area, one less flat screen tv, and older bedding. We did have a view of the strip, but we were on a very low floor that primarily overlooked the crane and construction behind the Casino Royale. It was hardly worth the additional money we paid each night for a "strip view."

Staying in the Venezia Tower takes a bit more navigating to get to the casino and canal shoppes than staying in the Venetian Tower. We took it in stride, though, and adjusted.

Staff with Club Grazie were exceptional and efficient. I can say the same with staff in the Sports Book. Cocktail servers on the floor were less predictable. One night we had a delightful and efficient server who always passed by at the right moment. Two other nights, we had to practically flag down a server to get a drink.

Housekeeping was also very unpredictable. Of our total 4 nights, we received turndown service only 1 night. One day of regular housekeeping service was absolutely awful. The trash was not emptied, toiletries were not replenished, the bed was partially made (bolster and pillows were on floor), and dirty glasses were left where we had placed them and not replenished.

Valet did a good job with the number of staff they had working. We typically had our car in about 10 minutes. I did have one super negative experience with one of the intake valets. When I pulled up, he merely glanced my way and called me "Sir." I have short hair so assumed once I got out of the car, he'd correct himself. He didn't look up again and proceeded to refer to me as sir again. I flipped and told him to stop calling me sir. Then, rather than offer a sincere apology, he said, "I'm slammed here and am doing the best I can." Unreal!

Don't stay here expecting a 5-star experience. I'm not sure how the Venetian has received that rating. It is in a great location. Rooms are larger than most. Unlike many other people, I don't mind the perfumed odor that permeates the property. It's better than nasty cigarette odor. I might stay here again but only if I secure a really good rate. The Wynn and Bellagio have great amenities and on-site restaurant choices. I'll most likely book one of them next time.
