We just returned from a great three-night stay at Treasure Island (TI). The hotel staff was friendly and helpful and the facility was excellent. I recall reading that TI had renovated the rooms recently and they did a great job with our room on the 12th floor. It was very contemporary and inviting, done up in a black, bronze and white theme. The bed was very comfortable – soft and with nice linens – and there was a nice chaise lounge and flat screen TV in the room. The bathroom was well done as well, with lots of counter space and nice shower/tub combo. The only complaint we had was that the lighting was a little dim. In the bedroom, it made for nice ambiance in the evening, but in the bath, more light would be helpful. Only negative was the high speed internet connection was not high speed – not even dialup speed. It was $8 for two hours, but when I told them about the slowness they were quick to remove the charge from the bill.
We got a great deal on the room thru the TI website, as they had an offer for a pair of tix to Cirque du Soleil’s Mystere show for free! We paid just $79 a night, and when you factor in the price of the two Mystere tix, it came to just $44 a night! Sensational! You have to book the show before you arrive, but that was easy enough. The tix were fairly high up in the theater, but with all the aerial displays in the show, I think higher up is better. We thoroughly enjoyed the show. Lots of amazing acrobatics and feats of strength. We also saw Zumanity at NYNY. That is Cirque’s sexually themed show. The comedy portions were very entertaining and very sexual in nature, but the artistic performance portion were fairly straightforward and not lewd or suggestive. Overall, Zumanity is not that erotic, but entertaining for sure.
We didn’t eat at the TI, but had wonderful dinners at Thomas Keller’s Bouchon and Mario Batali’s Enoteca San Marco (great pizza) across the street at the Venetian. Also hit Hubert Keller’s Burger Bar for lunch in the Mandalay Place mall between the Luxor and Mandalay Bay. And the old standby, the Peppermill, between the Riv and the Encore, was terrific as always. Oh, and be sure to get a croissant and maybe a salad at Payard Patisserie in Caesar’s.
