“Good Rooms at the Orleans”

The Orleans Hotel & Casino

We stayed at the Orleans hotel from Monday March 12 - Friday March 16.

I purposely chose an off-strip hotel as we were staying with 3 kids. We had a car so it was not an issue for us.

Check in: Very quick - maybe 10 minutes. Asked for strip view and got a room on the 18th floor. Asked for a crib and got it right when we got up to our room, very quick.

Room: The rooms here are nice. We were in room 1808 which was a really long walk from the elevator, but didn't bother me. The room had 2 double beds that were really comfy and a sitting area with a couch, chair & coffee table. I was really surprised by the size of the room. Very nice. The bathroom was ok, just average with regular tub & shower. Didn't really dig the sliding door, but oh well. There was also a desk area with the internet connection that we didn't use.

Entertainment: What we used was the arcade, which was adequate, but not fantastic. It had a really small one by the bowling alley and a little larger one by the movie theater. The bowling alley is really nice and big. We had 4 people bowling 2 games with shoes costed $17.50 (this was with a coupon from the book they give you at check in). Bowling is $1 between 12am & 8am though so if you are up...We did not see any movies, but the theater was really nice and huge.

Pool: It was March so pool hours were only until 6pm. The big pool is nice and big. It is only about 3-4 feet everywhere. It was not heated, so it was a bit cooler. There were stairs all around the pool and kind of a ledge that kids could walk on in the pool around the edges as well. The kids pool was great. It was a small circle and was heated - this meant lots of adults hanging out in there as well. It was a wading pool around the edge and then the middle had some stairs and went a bit deeper. This pool is in the sun all day until about 4pm so put sunscreen on your young ones! The other pool had shade for more than half the day. The jacuzzi was really nice. It was a circle with a large tree and rock/fountains in the middle so you didn't see the people on the other side of you.

Spa/Fitness: I only used the jacuzzi & steam room. I didn't have any services done. This is separated for men and women. Not many people in there when I was there. The steam room was really hot as was the jacuzzi. This was a free area. There were separate shower stalls and a nice dressing area with all the things you need. They have water bottles in there as well. The gym was really nice as well and didn't cost to use as I know some do.

Business Center: It had an area for faxing, copying etc plus 4 computers with internet access if you weren't using a laptop. No charge for this.

Restaurants: We only ate at the French Market Buffet. We were gone most of the time. Hubby and son ate breakfast once and really liked it and we also did lunch & dinner on 2 separate days. Lunch was similiar to dinner in my opinion, dinner just costed $5 more. $13.95 for dinner & $8.95 for lunch. I thought it was very good.

Casino: I only play slots so not an expert. Lots of 1 & 5 cent slots though. More than I have seen at other places. I thought it was fine, not too smoky and the waitresses seem to come around fairly often.

All in all I thought the Orleans was a decent hotel.

When my husband booked the Orleans, I was in an absolute panic. I really did not want to stay there, but had to meet up with another group already there. To my surprise, the rooms were very large and clean. The bed was similar to the Westin Heavenly Bed and the bathroom was quite large. The only drawbacks were the cigarette smell which filtered to the 11th floor, (most hotels in Vegas have the same problem anyway) and no separation between the toilet and closet/dressing area. The hotel is off the strip, but we had a car anyway and drive even when we stay on the strip. The hotel also has a very nice bowling alley and movie theatres, an added plus if you don't gamble or have kids.

“A Good Deal, Sometimes You Get What You Pay For”

Orleans is clean and the room deals are great. It's not on
the strip but we already know that! The buffet is cheap and a
great value. Lots of locals here. The service is unpredictable, there can be lines for any service here. If you book with an offer code, keep your confirm #s, a copy of your mailed or emailed offer, and ASK QUESTIONS - they don't always tell you how to redeem things. We got inconsistent information and I'm still not sure my $50 free food was free! Corporate needs to state everything in fine print if necessary when they send offers... Slots run hot and cold - there are plenty to try.

I had to book 9 rooms for ourselves and our employees and after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor, decided to book the Orleans. The staff was wonderful during the booking process as complicated as it turned out to be. Wanted all rooms together and they said they could accommodate us. The rooms were large (14 of us watched the super bowl in our room), extremely clean, beautiful views, and the beds were heavenly. We ate most of the restaurants and found all of them very good. (Loved the Mexican Restaurant.) Several people took the shuttle to the strip and others just grabbed a taxi. All in all, a great stay.

“Orleans downhill.”

The Orleans Hotel & Casino

Orleans has problems since it went corporate I have stayed there for 9 years, 2-3 times a year. Customer service manpower has been severely cut. several hundred people have been fired. Maintenance problems exceed the ability of limited manpower to correct same.
Drink girls in casino have been reduced. 20-30 minute wait for a drink. Mixed drinks are watered down. Cashier cage manpower is a skeleton crew. 20 minutes to cash $500 worth of Trav checks. Reduced manpower at the registration desk.

Bad decisions have been made in the name of profit for the stockholders.
