I really expected more from this hotel. Check-in was a confused nightmare that took nearly 5 hours to resolve. Was in town for a convention and decided to stay a few more days here since it is one of the few Vegas hotels I had not stayed at yet. Most hotels here get you in a room so you can get to the casino floor as quickly as possible but that did not happen here. It seemed like the staff had already pleased their quota of one customer per day and weren't going to do that again until tomorrow. This problem alone would make me think twice about staying here again. The "Broadway" room was entirely average and despite the fact I am a guy I must admit the colors in the room were bad with strange shades of purple visible everywhere. Frankly I don't know if this is traditional NY colors or just bad taste.
For what I subtract for the staff and room, I will in part give back to the casino and restaurants. It was always busy and at least a little exciting on the casino floor, if you like people watching. I hit the blackjack tables and lost my shirt, 2 pair of pants, belt, shoes, and lucky rabbits foot, but it wasn't that lucky for me or the rabbit huh? Not exactly my favorite place to gamble for obvious reasons.
There are several good restaurants on the Casino level so finding something to eat was never a problem. The best I found was the small hot dog stand next to the piano bar. Their Chicago style dog was great -- strangely better than most Chicago dogs I have had in Chicago itself. The second best restaurant was Chin Chin Cafe which could reduce their portion size by half and still have stuffed customers waddling out after a meal. I have to say one of my former favorite restaurants seems to have declined in quality over the past couple of years which is Gonzalez Y Gonzalez. This used to be the best Tex-Mex in the area but now seems to be a bit too greasy, and overpriced. Went to Nine Fine Irishmen and it was reasonably good except the bar staff seemed distracted and somewhat lacking in reasonable people skills plus had no clue how to pour a Irish style Black and Tan. Considering the this is supposed to be an authentic Irish pub brought piece by piece from Ireland, I expected a little more. They only poured your typical run of the mill American style Black and Tan with 50% or more Guinness.
Anyway I give this entire stay a very average rating could have been worse if it weren't for the overall atmosphere in the casino itself. It is a great place to visit while staying somewhere else on the strip.
