My husband and I took a mini-vacation from October 25-27 at NYNY. Check in was very quick and we got our requested non-smoking room. I also asked for a room as high as possible and landed on the 29th floor...didn't hear the roller coaster once. We were not pushed to upgrade and we stayed in the Park Avenue Deluxe. The room was average size, but well decorated. Everyone on staff was very courteous and prompt. We ate breakfast at Il Fornaio...wonderful. WE did lunch at Nine Fine Irishman and it was so-so, big servings however. My husband tried to get into ESPN Zone just to check it out, but there was a $10 spending limit just to sit down so he hit the gift shop instead. We never had a wait to get a cab and were relatively lucky in the casino.

A couple words of note...the monorail station is across the street in the MGM Grand...a great way to save your feet or get to shows quickly. Get used to cigarette smoke...people can pretty much smoke anywhere they please...including the restuarants. Also, be prepared to be hasseled into Tahiti Village time shares. I was a little offended these people were allowed to set up shop right in the middle of the hotel. We must have been approaced 5 times in the first hour. We were also offered "call girl cards" and heavy drugs just outside the doors going to the MGM overpass. WE quickly became skilled at ignoring people.

Overall, I would recommend the NYNY. It was a good location and a good bargain for the money.

Just got back from NYNY last night. The hotel was horrible. We had booked 3 rooms with the hotel directly but when we got there the names on the rooms were wrong and the check in clerks were clueless as how to fix it, they kept wanting to give us a higher rate because they were changing our reservations. We finally after about 2 hours of trying to check in to be told there were no rooms availbale were "upgraded" to a Park Avenue Room - that was a joke, the room was dark and just not what we were expecting, our view was of the roof and roller coaster. The towels were not big enough to wrap around yourself when you get out of the shower and not very absorbent. The hotel itself was very smoky and poor air quality. It seemed like they were trying to cover the smoke with air freshener. We were not impressed wth the hotel at all and will not be staying there again.

My husband & I stayed at this hotel October 12 thru October 15th, 2006. From check-in which was fast and courteous & throughout the trip, the stay was a wonderful experience. We were offered an excellent deal to stay for the nights we reserved and our room was clean, nicely appointed and well taken care of by both houskeeping and the hotel itself. We were furnished daily with clean towels and amenities and the beds were both comfortable and spacious. We would definitly recommend New York New York to other visitors and would stay there again.

It wasn't a great start. Be aware of the scam - they will offer you an upgrade for only $x, if you then decline this, they will inform you that your room won't be ready for a couple of hours and would you therefore like to upgrade, if you still decline, they miraculously find a room available - not impressed.
Our room was on the lowest possible floor so therefore absolutely no view, it may be best to request a higher floor. The room was nicely decorated if not a little small. The hotel was very good, especially for restaurants, we loved the Chinese resturant and the atmosphere in the casino area etc is less claustrophobic, as they've brought the 'outside in' so to speak, by recreating New York . The rollercoaster on the roof is great fun, take a ride! Looking at all the other hotels on The Strip I would definitely recommend this one over all others and it was good value.

NYNY was a wonderful hotel in a superb location. The atmosphere is one of fun and excitement, with a great casino that is laid out so that you aren't crowded and you don't feel trapped inside lke some casinos. We had a park avenue deluxe room, and although it was one of the smallest hotel rooms I have stayed in, it had a great view and a beautiful bathroom with adequate amenities, marble, and nice towels. The bed was very comfortable, pillows were fluffy and there were plenty of them. You could hear people in the hallways at certain times, but I wouldn't say this was a problem. As others said, there is some noise from the rollercoaster, but for us it just added to the atmosphere of the whole place. You must ride the rollercoaster, it is a scream! We loved it. We ate at Il Fornaio which was scrumptious, try the bear claw pastry, it is melt in your mouth wonderful! We also ate at Nine Fine Irishmen which was average but had great service. I would recommend this hotel for a great Las Vegas getaway. Being across fromt he MGM and the Excalibur, you feel right in the thick of things. The walk to mid strip is bearable, and it is easy to get to Mandalay Bay via the tram at Excalibur.
