Staying at New York-New York is like getting this really neat package for your birthday that has elaborate wrapping and ribbons and bows, but when you open it up you find socks and underwear. Not fancy socks and underwear, either. Okay, I think the target market for New York-New York is probably under 25 and not looking for much in a hotel room other than a bed and bathtub. And that's about all the hotel offers, an uninspired room with no frills...no in-room coffee, no cable, no water pressure and (at least in my experience) limited housekeeping.
After the second night there, they neglected to make up the room. When I called at 6 p.m. to request service, they assured me it would be taken care of. When I returned from dinner and gambling at 10:30 p.m., it still hadn't been cleaned. I gave up and settled in for the evening.
At a quarter to midnight housekeeping called and asked if I still wanted my room made up.
And avoid the overpriced spa. The masseuse talked through the entire massage. I came away from the massage more stressed than when I'd arrived.
The pool is small, crowded and uninspired in a city that takes pride in elaborate pools and amenities. The roller coaster is a nice novelty until you've heard it scream by your window for the 20th time.
Okay, I did like the casino. What imagination they neglected in designing the rooms, they made up for in the casino. And the Nine Fine Irishman restaurant and pub was amazing. The food and service were top notch.
Overall, there are much nicer hotels in Las Vegas that offer value and amenities.
