We stayed here for 6 nights and have blisters from walking to our rooms. This place is huge! It is permanantly busy but the staff do a great job of keeping on top of cleanliness. The atmosphere is not smokey and there is no litter. The restaurants and bars are all well patronised. We did the buffet and have to conlcude that it was the worst we had in vegas in terms of service and variety. There were insufficient staff and they were slow to aknowledge requests. I would recommend TIs "Dishes" buffet and if you go downtown, The Golden Nugget.
The rooms in the Emerald Tower are spacious and well equipt. The hotel is at the end of the main strip so unless you aim to be resort based or enjoy walking I would give careful consideration before choosing this hotel.

Less Than "Grand" Nowadays!

We have stayed at the MGM Grand at least 5-6 times. Now we visit Las Vegas several times a year, and have usually returned to the MGM Grand because they have one of the best pools on the strip. That is about the only good thing left about this hotel nowadays.

The service went from absolutely spectacular, to nothing but dreadful in the last few years. Our last visit was Labor Day weekend in September 2004. The front desk service was less than welcoming, and had a tiresome attitude toward customers. Not that we expected the "royal treatment" at check in, but did expect a little appreciation being repeat customers.

The attitude continued as we saw a man complaining at the front desk, that had spent $100,000 in their casino. They would still not comp the poor guy a room for all that money spent! They basically had the attitude of "Oh well, your loss our gain". They ended up not even giving that guy a room. Complaints were disregarded by management, and often took a couple of trips to the front desk to get resolution to one problem. We felt less than "GRAND" during this stay, so will not be returning to this hotel for trip number 7.

If you expect a decent attitude for your dollar, then DO NOT stay at the MGM Grand Hotel!

Stayed at MGM Grand in September 2004. The hotel and casino is of a really high quality and I didnt see any of the problems that I have read about in some of the other reviews. We had a brilliant stay and couldnt fault the room, service and facilities within the hotel. It was my husbands birthday whilst we were there an I arranged (and paid) for the room to be decorated ready for our arrival - which was done really well. The only thing I would change (which is impossible) would be to move the hotel about 500m down the strip as it did seem quite a long way to walk when you were further up the strip, even at the Bellagio for example. However, the deceiving thing about the strip is that the hotels are so big that each one can take 5-10 minutes to walk past, so you can see the MGM in the distance but it takes ages to walk there but is only a short walk to the Excalibur (great breakfast), Luxor and Mandalay Bay. If you get the chance go to the Fashion Show Mall which is up the strip past the Treasure Island for great shopping, do a helicopter flight along the strip at night which is amazing and visit the Venetian Hotel - and all the other hotels which have their own attractions (but similar casinos). We did find that the further up the strip you go towards Circus Circus and downtown the standard of the hotels and attractions does drop. Will definately be returning!

We saw Mr Copperfield's show there May04 we had gotten tickets that morning at 100$ a pop for 3 we were surprised we were right at the front
one table from the stage centre. We were extremely disappointed in the
state of the stage/tables/sits etc all were crowded together. Our son was sat a table next to us not with us it was not even a table he was sat between 2 tables. While the show was good it did not compare to other shows we saw the same visit for half the price and when he was in Winnipeg not long ago we could not even be bothered to go we saw enough and thought it was not at all worth the price. It sure does not compare to his specials on tv.Oh and he was close enough to touch if we reached out our hand........no we didn't........

Was not at all impressed with the MGM

Sometimes when things get too big, attention to detail is lost. Remember this if you plan to book at the MGM Grand. Also know you will not be listened to, appreciated, asked to return or given any special treatment regardless of what your occasion for being there is. And, plan to return to the front desk, a good two mile hike from your room, twice a day to sort out some "booking glitch" that causes your room key to not work. Don't say I didn't warn you....
