We have just returned from a four night stay at the MGM Grand. We were awakened the last three nights with a horrible sound outside of out hotel window. There was a constuction elevator attached to the outside of our of our room and it scaled the building from 5:00 AM until 8:00 PM every day. This was reported to the front desk and was told I had to live with it. It literally sounded like a lawn mower was riding through our room every three minutes. Since we were there at a business conference we could not move to another hotel. The hotel manager was not sympathetic when my husband explained what had happened to us either at checkout. I left with a headache. If I return to Vegas again, I would prefer to stay in a hotel near the center of the strip. The MGM is located at the far end of the strip which means you need to be prepared to walk alot, especially if you want to shop and see other sites. The monorail system in Vegas takes a bit of hiking to get to and from also. Fortunately we enjoy walking for exercise, so this only meant we needed to make certain that we were wearing comfortable shoes. The shopping is not as good at the MGM but there really are some wonderful shopping opportunities down around Caesar's Palace and the Venetian. The restaurants in Vegas are wonderful everywhere you go, waits are practically nonexistent. and the guacamole dip at Diegos Restaurant in the MGM is wonderful. The casino is huge, but there is nothing eyecatching about the hotel. There is a lion habitat which is quite enjoyable. If gambling is your primary objective, the MGM Grand may suit your tastes, but if you are looking for convenience, respectable service, and a quieter room you might want to check out other opportunities. Our problem fell on deaf ears.
