We checked into the Mandalay Bay on the morning of my boyfriend's birthday - Aug. 1. The check-in was incredibly fast with almost no lines - one of the advantages of a non-weekend stay. As is often the case at 9am, a clean non-smoking King room wasn't yet available. We said we'd be OK with putting our things into a room and checking back later. Although we were willing to wait until the afternoon for our room, upon learning it was my boyfriend's b'day we were upgraded to a beautiful 1BR suite overlooking the pools and we were able to check in immediately. The suite was beautiful with wonderful amenities including a jacuzzi tub and wet bar! We spent the day at the Moorea Beach Club (the adults only pool area) which was beautiful and tranquil - a nice alternative to the madness of the main pools. European sunbathing allowed and NO children. Area also has it's own bar and food service. Service was OK - not great in this area - surprising considering that there were relatively few people. In the evening we enjoyed dinner at rumjungle. Food was much better than expected. A few rounds of blackjack, cocktails and we called it an evening. Breakfast at the Raffles Cafe was a disappointment the next morning. Service was SLOW even though the restaurant was empty. When it finally arrived, the food was lukewarm and my boyfriend's order was incorrect. To top it off, it was expensive. Overall we had a really nice stay, with the only letdowns being in the food service area at both the pools and at the cafe.
