“Go Room at Flamingo”

Flamingo Las Vegas

We stayed in a Go Room mini-suite late January 2007. Mini-Suites are larger than the deluxe/luxury Go Room providing an extended sitting area. Our room 22000 faced Flamingo Blvd and had an unobstructed view of the Bellagio Fountains. (Apparently a deluxe and a luxury are the same GO room except that luxury rooms face the strip),

This was our second stay at the Flamingo and our main decision to return was because of the location. I also found that the rates were much better than other properties in the vicinity. GO Room rates where even better than a standard room at Bally’s or Harrahs. Paid more than I wanted to upgrade to the GO mini-suite but was glad to have the extra space. Good location near the elevators which let out near the taxi stand.

I liked the GO rooms. Comfortable bedding, flat panel TVs, and Ipod docking stations. The mini-suites have two TVs, one by the bed and another across the room. Presented somewhat of a problem because the remote would operate both TVs at the same time. The remote also operates your Ipod through the TV once connected to the system.

Called maintenance twice, once to unlock our safe (was locked when we arrived) and again to show us how to operate all the electronics. Both times they were prompt to arrive and assist us. We also found the bell stand quick to deliver and pickup our bags. Housekeeping also filled a request for extra pillows promptly.

No waiting to check in at airport and used rapid check out when we left so we had no dealings with the front desk.

Didn’t eat at the Flamingo or see any shows there so can’t comment as to either. We did gamble a bit but had no luck.

TIP- See Vinnie Favorito at O’Sheas. Vinnie Favorito is an insult comic who will pick on everyone in the audience at some point. I was in pain from laughing so hard.

Went to vegas for my 30th. Hotel was ok it is starting to look very run down. The "GO" rooms were great. You can check in at the airport as well. Didn't find to many winners at this hotel. Spent most of our time at harrahs and ballys. You can't beat the location. Check out the freemont st. experience. Veags keeps getting more and more expensive. The hotels are not as liberal with the drinks or the comps and we gambled alot. Still no other place like it. We were only there for three days so no shows this time. Check out the palms on a friday or saturday night.

“The Perfect Place for Me”

We have been going to Vegas annually for years and have stayed in a variety of places including time shares and the better known Strip hotels but somehow, the Flamingo has always called to me so for this trip I gave in to the call and came away very pleased.

The Flamingo is Old Vegas: the ceilings are lower, the casino is louder and things are often hidden away in odd corners but the Art Deco styling, the magnificent pool and the wildlife habitat give it an extra special feel. I recommend making the short trek to Bugsy Siegel's plaque in the center of the wildlife area. The legend goes that if you rub his head you'll win in the casino - and we did!

The staff were superb all around. The valet and bell desk staff were particularly helpful but not a single staff interaction was the least bit negative during our stay.

Dining options are plentiful and varied from a sandwich shop in the promenade to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. The buffet is nice enough, the coffee shop, "Tropical Breezes" is nice and convenient and there are also an Italian, a Japanese and a Steak House on the property. Don't get me wrong - these probably are not the finest dining opportunities in town but they certainly aren't bad. I will say the Flamingo has the most reasonably priced room service menu I have ever seen!

Transportation is also a joy from the Flamingo. Not only is the bus stop right outside the lobby that will take you to downtown for $2 but the Monorail is a very short walk from the back door under a covered walkway suspended over the pool. It is easy to get a cab and by walking a block or so to Harrah's you can take advantage of a number of free shuttles to other casinos. But most importantly, the Flamingo is located center Strip, directly across the street from Ceasar's, which makes it the perfect location for walking most places.

I must also add that, as has been previously noted here, the Flamingo is excellent for those who don't want to or can't walk miles and miles. Places like Ceasar's and the MGM are massive complexes that demand long treks from the lobby to your room, from your elevators to dining areas and even from the lobby to the street.

We opted to check in at the hotel rather than at the airport due to the line there. The check in process took about 15 minutes. We were given the option of taking a room right away that was on a low floor but close to the elevators or waiting a few hours for a room on a higher floor. Since my husband was suffering from a bad cold I opted to take the room immediately available. It was exactly as I had booked: 2 queen beds and non-smoking. I think we most enjoyed the proximity to the elevators after overhearing others complain about the long walk.

The room was large and clean and we had excellent maid service every day. I also remembered to leave a small tip daily which I think helps to make sure you get excellent service. The room was quiet except for an odd ticking sound whenever we turned off the bathroom light. The beds were comfortable and the black out drapes were much appreciated.

On the whole we were extremely pleased with every facet of our stay and will stay at the Flamingo again.

We checked in at the airport, which had a bit of a line, but was much better than waiting to check in at the hotel...where people were waiting what seemed to be at least an hour in line. We waited about 20 minutes at the airport. We requested a strip view, and to be somewhat high up.
When we got to our room, it was rather large, and did have a strip view, although somewhat obscured by the Toni Braxton window cling. You could still see...but when you got up close you could see the million tiny little holes, and it kind of distracted from the view. The room was fair...had two double beds, eventhough we requested a king. But, we could handle that.
The bathroom however was a different story. The second you walked in, it smelled of mold and mildew...so much so, that I could not even spend 5 minutes in the bathroom without having to come out for air. So...we went back down to the front desk to ask if they had any other rooms available. At that moment, all they had was a low-floor garden view. However, they did have several remodeled rooms which had not even been previously stayed in...they were just released, and we were more than welcome to go up and look around before deciding.
So, we did...and from the second we opened the door...we were hooked! Large King, comfy bed with pristine white down linens, ipod docking station with great sound system, large enough closet, cool lighting effects, electric shades and sheers on the floor to cieling windows, 42" plasma TV, freestanding glass shower, with large soaking tub in bathroom...plus a small tv screen within the mirror in the bathroom.
The room was a garden view...but it didn't really matter at that point. We paid $50/night more to upgrade...but we were only paying $56 a night to begin with...so that still made it cheaper than almost all of the other "luxury" hotels!
All in all, we liked the Flamingo...if you take the remodeled rooms! It was easy to navigate (unlike some of the mega-hotels), the pool (especially adult pool) was fantastic and beautiful! The poolside bar had great drinks, the buffett was NOT good, but the other cafe style restaurant was fine.
The location of the Flamingo can't be beat!! Right in the heart of everything! Would recomend, if you splurge on the upgrade...

“Good value and great location”

Flamingo Las Vegas

We arrived with some doubts about the hotel after reading the very mixed reports on this website. We checked in at the airport as recommended and asked about upgrades due to the fact we were there to celebrate my 40th birthday and were only offered higher priced rooms. We then asked about a strip view and were offered one at $20 extra a night. We accepted this but lived to regret it. Once you've seen the Bellagio fountains what you do get is an awful lot of street noise (we were on 17th floor) it was absolutely appalling (but we did arrive the Saturday night of the NBA) as we were so jetlagged it was not a good start. My husband went down the next day and reception were very helpful, they changed us to a quiet pool view and of course this was at no extra cost to out original booking but the nightmare night cost us $20!.(incidentally he was also told that since Harrahs bought the hotel free upgrades are no longer given)
Saying this, we stayed as a family of 4 in a standard room which was a little dated and the carpet had seen better days but we found it to be very clean and the standard of cleaning each day was very good. We found all staff very helpful and the breakfast buffet to be very good too. We visited virtually every hotel on the strip to see the attractions and they did seem larger with more to offer but I'm sure at a much heftier price. My advice would be stay at the Flamingo for good value in an excellent location and spend what you save in the casinos, restaurants and seeing the sights!
