Having just travelled for 18 hours from England via Chicago, we where a bit tired to say the least. We checked in to the hotel at the airport befor hand which is a brilliant idea. There was no line at all and very easy.
The flamingo was a sight for sore eyes and weary bodies. Getting out of the taxi to curtious doormen and having our (far from light) cases whisked away to our room was brilliant. Leaving us to wonder round the lobby and casino for a few minutes to try and get our bearings. Once we found an elivator and our room (which was no easy task after such a long day) we where peeved to find that although it was nearly 9pm, it hadnt been cleaned after the previous occupants had left. We called down to reception and after explaining the situation, we where upgraded to a suite overlooking the strip with great views of the bellagio fountains and cesears palace and the mountains beyond. BRILLIANT!
The room itself was nice (ignoring the colour scheme), big tv, couch, 2 massive beds, desk and chair, coffee table, large bathroom. All in very good condition. We where very impressed.
As we where running on empty, we decided to get room service, which came quickly, with a smile and relativley cheaply. Nothing was to much trouble.
Thanks to the jet lag, we where up and around very early the next day, exploring the hotel. We took breakfast at the hotel buffet. around $11 each.
There was a very large selection of everything. And the service was very good. Only bad point being later on in the week when we eat there later in the morning is that some of the more unpopular trays of food where a bit dry or overcooked having being sat there for a good few hours. But that was a minor bad point.
The resturaunts in the hotel where all very good. The best being 'pink ginger'. All the resturaunts however where very good value for money, with good service. Average price of starter and main, wine/champagne for 2 being around $80. For the same food and service in england you would be paying double. So you can see why we where so impressed.
The casino itself was very well laid out. Not to many machines piled on top of each other, like other hotels we visited. Lots of space to wonder round and watch the various poker/craps/blackjack tables.
Having read a lot of reviews about how smokey all the casino's are i was happy to find that it wasnt at all, even at the weekend. Drinks where average vegas $5 each.
The pools where excellent, but the wild life habitat with the flamingo's and peguins where a bit of a let down.
We where in vegas for 9 days and travelled up and down the strip visiting more or less all the hotels big and small, and overall i would say the flamingo was the best value for money. Not to cheap, not to expensive.
And i kind of liked the way it didnt have a funky theme, or circus rides or things like that in it. It was a little oasis of relative calm (if that is possible) in the madness that is vegas.
I would highly recomend it to anyone.
