As I'm sure anyone reading these reviews realizes, they are not gospel..they're just one person's personal experience. That being said I'll give you our experience on our 4 night visit June 18-21st. I'll preface by saying we stayed here back in 2001 and enjoyed it. After reading reviews and checking out virtual tour/photos it wasn't hard to figure out that if we didn't book a new GO room we'd have the same accomodations as last time only 8 yrs older. We expected "worn" but wouldn't accept any room that wasn't clean.
We stood in line at check-in about 15 minutes (arrived around 1pm on a Thurs) Were offered a GO room for an extra $30/nt. I do enjoy a nice room but just decided the $$ could be better spent and respectfully declined hoping for the best. Asked for the nicest view available on a high floor. Were told the hotel was 95% full but she'd see what she could find....gave us 21st floor overlooking grounds, pool etc....just fine. She even spent some extra time seeing if she could book others in our party on our floor. Couldn't but they did end up with adjoining rooms as requested. Nice customer service. Room was exactly what we expected: worn (ie...knicks in furniture, some carpet stains (we actually spilled a little booze ourselves--oops!) plastic shower curtain, etc.. They do need upgrading. However, no bugs. mold, candy wrappers etc....everything was clean. lots of towels, plenty of shampoo, conditioner. lotion etc....for the 4-7 hrs. each night sleeping and the 90 minutes getting ready between pool and night fun, it was just fine. Hairdryer blew, safe locked, drains drained. doorknobs turned, air worked...blah blah blah.....
Only ate in one restaurant in the Flamingo. It was called Voga. Contemporary decor, great service and delicious food. Worth checking out.
The pools are an all day party. It's true, they are crowded. The gates opened at 8 am and people started lining up at 7am. By 8am the sun is out and there were probably 50 people in line. They ask to see your room key before you can enter. No food/beverage is allowed unless it appears to have been purchased at the hotel and "most" of the pool entrance staff check bags on the way in. If you arrived after about 9:30 or 10am you most likely wouldn't find several chairs open together. Burgers/chicken sandwiches at poolside grill are actually very good. Drinks were typical resort prices; $10 for approx 14 oz cup. Here's a little tip for the cocktailers: if you're planning on having more than one drink at the pools during your stay, buy the heavy plastic "souvenir" cup with snap on lid..it's $19 for the first one and $16 for any refills. It's not as expensive as it sounds because it's huge--32 oz!! Wash out and use during entire stay. They will fill with whatever you want for that $16...Margarita, Mai-Tai, Long Island Tea, etc..lots of top shelf hooch. I saw one bartender using Grey Goose. Oh yeah, the bartenders...very nice. Good mixologists and lots of fun too. Music is loud, party is on...easy to meet people and that's one of the fun parts of vacation (IMO) If you want to sit in quiet and read you may be out of luck. The adults only "GO POOL" is separated from other pool but still in same area. I think the sign said you had to be 21 to enter. Free for ladies, $10 cover for men. It's a younger crowd, DJ spins, topless is allowed. Way crowded...just like a bar only outside in the hot sun. The place to be if you're young and on the prowl. If I were in my 20's I would prefer the GO pool but I'm not so we just checked it out one day for a bit and went back to the bigger pool. It's very picturesque, water is clean and cool, nice plants, islands, waterfall and lots of fun people. Chatted with a few of the security guys around pool during our stay about some the crazy antics they've had to deal with. They take it in stride and said nothing surprises them anymore. Bet it doesn't.
Didn't win any cash in the Flamingo but didn't gamble there much either.
I've rambled enough...we enjoyed our stay. You're welcome for the good review that this resort does deserve in our opinion and as experienced by us on our particular visit. That's all any of us can speak to. If you didn't enjoy your stay I'm sure you have your reasons and issues but they're just that...YOUR reasons and issues.
In summary, IMO, the rooms need upgrade, the staff was great, my one food experience was very good, the pools were rockin' and we came home laughing and wishing our 4 days hadn't gone by so quickly.
