We had a banquet at the Flamingo October 21 - 23, 2004. Poor timing on our part, since our stay coincided with eh Norovirus outbreak. Thankfully, we didn't get sick, but plenty of people around the hotel were. Banquet service was not good, but probably due to the amount of staff out sick, so I am going to cut them some slack in that area.
Please heed this advice. CHECK IN AT THE AIRPORRT! I've never seen such poor service at a front desk. Our attendees waited in line for an hour, even at midnight, only to be told they were being bumped to the Aladdin. I never saw less than 50 people waiting in line, and when our people got to the head of the line, it still took 15 minutes just to get the room - I don't know why. Perhaps they were closing down rooms due to the virus. No explanation, no apology.
The rooms themselves were fine, but not elegant or even nice, about par with a Radisson. Bed was OK, but pillows were too small and only 3 of them on a king bed. Comforter was the usual motel variety, but seemed new. I had a sofa and a desk, but didn't request a larger room, so I assume that was a regular room. I had a distant view of the pool. The bathroom was just typical, but the water pressure and temperature were very good. The air conditioner did not go below 75 degrees, no matter what it was set on. I like it cool in the room. The room seemed very clean and I appreciated that. They were also constantly cleaning the slots and floors - I think due to the virus.
We paid $89 per night and it wasn't very competitive for Vegas - the rooms at Bally's and Harrah's are much nicer and are cheaper.
Margaritaville was excellent. Lindy's was good but service was very slow. I enjoyed the casino - it has a varied selection of slots and games for every budget and seemed to be paying here and there. The best thing about the Flamingo is the location - you can't beat it for seeing the strip. Some of our group had front tower rooms and the view of the strip was awesome. Good for first time Vegas visitors.
