Against my better judgement (and my wife's bitter disagreement!) I decided to experience Fremont Street . Getting into the Nugget is a feat unto itself! After three or four trips circumnavigating the corner, we opted for the park and hike. Out of three entrances (unmanned!) only the "main" entrance (the one we didn't find!) was staffed. Unsympathetic to our plea for valet service (of course it was very difficult to understand with my gasping....) we were again directed through the rat's maze of elevators and after two missed opportunities, finally made it down cardiac alley to our $200 room. The massive gold nugget on display is cool. That's all that's cool about downtown. Fremont St. is a novel approach to losing money/entertainment. The service was horrible, staffing was uncaring and unprofessional, parking is inconvenient, neighborhood is used up, but overall the room was comfortable and quiet. Lines were long to check-in, check-out, and dine-in. It's apparently a challenge to manage and move paying customers here. The Strip is the new Las Vegas, stay there.

“Definitely not a four star.....”

Golden Nugget

This is rated as a four star.....It is more like a 2 1/2 star. The casino area is nice and the pool is great, but the rooms are in need of help. You could feel the springs in the bed, there was not very much water pressure in the shower, the towels were pretty old & ratty. The room had not been cleaned very well. There was a beer cap on the table next to the bed & there was no soap or shampoo in the bathroom. I would only recommend this hotel if you get a good deal of no more than $60.00 per night or if you are expecting a 2 1/2 star hotel, not a four star. Date of stay: May 18-20, 2007.

In short everything was really good. It is located in the "Old" section of Las Vegas which is a 20 minute ride from the "Strip".
Considering the quality and the price, it pays to stay at the Nugget.
Everything was very good. Clean facility, good pool, good resturant, friendly and helpful staff. All you could want for the money.

The pool has an aquariam running through the middle of it, with a waterslide that tobogons through.

When you book, ask for VIP Check-in. As for the North Tower which is quieter.

I stayed here for the second time. I got a good rate. They have improved the pool area and buffet since I was there last year. However, this is not a great hotel for a business traveler. Everything costs extra. High speed internet $11. Printing of anything including your air boarding pass was $1 per page. The TV has few channels. The buffet was good and I enjoyed the new shark tank by the pool.

My husband and I stayed at the Golden Nugget last weekend, and had a great time there. The pool area was great with the shark tank to swim around & the water slide was a lot of fun! Lots of room to lay in the sun & good drinks. Only bad part about the Golden Nugget was the check-in. We waited in line for an hour. Everytime we walked past check-in the lines were super long. Usually only 1 or 2 people working at the counter. They need to really improve on that. Otherwise highly recommend the Golden Nugget!
