Against my better judgement (and my wife's bitter disagreement!) I decided to experience Fremont Street . Getting into the Nugget is a feat unto itself! After three or four trips circumnavigating the corner, we opted for the park and hike. Out of three entrances (unmanned!) only the "main" entrance (the one we didn't find!) was staffed. Unsympathetic to our plea for valet service (of course it was very difficult to understand with my gasping....) we were again directed through the rat's maze of elevators and after two missed opportunities, finally made it down cardiac alley to our $200 room. The massive gold nugget on display is cool. That's all that's cool about downtown. Fremont St. is a novel approach to losing money/entertainment. The service was horrible, staffing was uncaring and unprofessional, parking is inconvenient, neighborhood is used up, but overall the room was comfortable and quiet. Lines were long to check-in, check-out, and dine-in. It's apparently a challenge to manage and move paying customers here. The Strip is the new Las Vegas, stay there.
