We arrived at 6.30 on a Friday evening expecting to queue having read previous reviews on this site! We waited about 10 mins and there were 3 people in front. We found the staff courtious and made the check in a reasonable experience. We had been deposited at the south tower entrance by the limo, and it was a bit of a hike to find the main desk with our luggage in tow! We then had to lug it back again as our room was on the third floor in you've gussed it the south tower. Nobody offered to help with the luggage although we did not request anybody to do so.
The room was clean, and ready for us. Irrespective of what time we left the room, we always returned to find the bed made and bathroom cleaned. The shower was wicked, if somewhat complicated to work! I have to agree with previous reviews regarding the towels. Plenty of them but they could do with a bit of fabric conditioner as they were stiff and clearly a bit old. My only other comment regarding the room was the aircon. It was a little chilly one night and we wanted a bit of heat. We had to endure a quite revolting burning skin smell as the heating function had clearly not been used for some time. As the windows do not open more than 1 inch, this was rather unpleasent. If you are reading this Mr Nugget, I suggest running the heating once a month to avoid guests having to endure this experence. 1 final pain was the Nugget car park across the road. Nothing worse than a noisy motor bike rider parking on the top floor and deciding to leave the car park at 4.30 in the morning. I shared his exit from every floor, and his obviouse relief when he finally got to the bottom and roared away!!
The hotel public area's were spotless. Staff were always out in the late evenings polishing the mirrors and brass, and one night we saw a guy on his hands and knees scrubbing one of the carpets. Very impressed!
We are not gamblers so I can make no comment regarding that facility. It was however a very interesting place to stand and watch others playing with their banks money!
I do have 2 gripes. They both revolve around eating! The Carson Cafe staff were not the friendliest, and there was a considerable amount of waiting for food. The quality was not special either. I had southern fried chicken one evening that was so over cooked I could not eat it. The chips were not any better! My new wife tells me however that the pancakes were great.
My other gripe was the Buffet. It shuts at 10, and we arrived at 10 to. There were 2 staff at the desk and a waitress at the entrance. We made a move towards the waitress and one of the staff at the desk stopped her conversation and said "You have to pay here first" It was not the content that annoyed me but the way she said it. There were no signs to say "wait here to be served" and , at the end of the day I was a customer!
We turnrd on our heals and left her to her conversation. Clearly an overtired employee, or a fed up one.
The nice part was the pool area, which was fully open, and had nice fluffy towels!! This area will be a hit! One point for Mr Nugget however. It is nice when you are on holiday to spend an evening outside in the fresh air with a nice drink and good company. I was therefore suprised that we got booted out at 2am because the bar was closing.
The Nugget does not match the hotels on the strip. However, we were very glad that we chose the Nugget and would certainly revisit if ever we could afford another trip to renew our vows. Dream on!!
As for Vegas as a holiday, A week is long enough! A lot of walking in spite of the fantastic DEAUCE buses.
We have been home 3 weeks now, and I have had plenty of time to think about the stay. If anybody from the UK is reading this and thinking of going, dont hesitate to contact me for further tips and opinions.
