“Loved the Nugget!”

Golden Nugget

We were only to stay here for one night as we were on a short trip which we split between the strip & downtown. I had been in the Golden Nugget in the past and in their pool area so I thought it was a good choice.

CHECK IN
We were booked for a standard room in the South Tower. When we got there to check in, they were full so the desk clerk tells me they have upgraded us to a Parlor Suite in the North Tower at no additional charge. Hey I was thrilled! The line was pretty long to check in and I did notice that their front lobby stayed pretty busy with check ins.

ROOM
The room was on the 14th floor and was really nice. It had a king bed that was so comfy I wanted to bring it home. There was another room with a bar/kitchen area along with a living room & dining table. There were 2 bathrooms, one with a jacuzzi jet tub and the other with a steamer shower. This was a lovely treat. The room was very clean, with everything you could think of needing in it. Absolutely wonderful.

POOL
The pool area is nice. The shark tank is fabulous and is much better when viewed from in the pool than from the side. It goes down deeper and them sharks swim right up to you. The slide is quite fun, goes pretty fast but by the time you get to the clear portion going through the tank you can't see much. But still fun. The pool gets pretty crowded. Lots of people just sunning, more than in the pool, but the weather was a bit mild so that might be why. In the morning the left side of the pool near the bar gets full fast as it is sunny & the right side is in the shade for awhile. The jacuzzi was nice - it said it had a 52 person capacity, but I couldn't quite envision that! It was really hot though.

All in all I would stay there again. I wasn't expecting the suite, but was glad I got it. I would be happy in a regular room as well as I felt the Golden Nugget was very clean and fun.

It is definetly not for those who are looking for relaxing privacy though. It gets crowded there and of course being downtown is much different than the strip, but I loved it.

We arrived at 6.30 on a Friday evening expecting to queue having read previous reviews on this site! We waited about 10 mins and there were 3 people in front. We found the staff courtious and made the check in a reasonable experience. We had been deposited at the south tower entrance by the limo, and it was a bit of a hike to find the main desk with our luggage in tow! We then had to lug it back again as our room was on the third floor in you've gussed it the south tower. Nobody offered to help with the luggage although we did not request anybody to do so.
The room was clean, and ready for us. Irrespective of what time we left the room, we always returned to find the bed made and bathroom cleaned. The shower was wicked, if somewhat complicated to work! I have to agree with previous reviews regarding the towels. Plenty of them but they could do with a bit of fabric conditioner as they were stiff and clearly a bit old. My only other comment regarding the room was the aircon. It was a little chilly one night and we wanted a bit of heat. We had to endure a quite revolting burning skin smell as the heating function had clearly not been used for some time. As the windows do not open more than 1 inch, this was rather unpleasent. If you are reading this Mr Nugget, I suggest running the heating once a month to avoid guests having to endure this experence. 1 final pain was the Nugget car park across the road. Nothing worse than a noisy motor bike rider parking on the top floor and deciding to leave the car park at 4.30 in the morning. I shared his exit from every floor, and his obviouse relief when he finally got to the bottom and roared away!!
The hotel public area's were spotless. Staff were always out in the late evenings polishing the mirrors and brass, and one night we saw a guy on his hands and knees scrubbing one of the carpets. Very impressed!
We are not gamblers so I can make no comment regarding that facility. It was however a very interesting place to stand and watch others playing with their banks money!
I do have 2 gripes. They both revolve around eating! The Carson Cafe staff were not the friendliest, and there was a considerable amount of waiting for food. The quality was not special either. I had southern fried chicken one evening that was so over cooked I could not eat it. The chips were not any better! My new wife tells me however that the pancakes were great.
My other gripe was the Buffet. It shuts at 10, and we arrived at 10 to. There were 2 staff at the desk and a waitress at the entrance. We made a move towards the waitress and one of the staff at the desk stopped her conversation and said "You have to pay here first" It was not the content that annoyed me but the way she said it. There were no signs to say "wait here to be served" and , at the end of the day I was a customer!
We turnrd on our heals and left her to her conversation. Clearly an overtired employee, or a fed up one.
The nice part was the pool area, which was fully open, and had nice fluffy towels!! This area will be a hit! One point for Mr Nugget however. It is nice when you are on holiday to spend an evening outside in the fresh air with a nice drink and good company. I was therefore suprised that we got booted out at 2am because the bar was closing.
The Nugget does not match the hotels on the strip. However, we were very glad that we chose the Nugget and would certainly revisit if ever we could afford another trip to renew our vows. Dream on!!
As for Vegas as a holiday, A week is long enough! A lot of walking in spite of the fantastic DEAUCE buses.

We have been home 3 weeks now, and I have had plenty of time to think about the stay. If anybody from the UK is reading this and thinking of going, dont hesitate to contact me for further tips and opinions.

“Loved the Golden Nugget”

This was the first stay on fremont street at the Golden Nugget and it was a great experience. Checking in and out was great, staff was very freindly, the breakfest buffet had lots selection and the quality of the food was great. The room was very large and very clean. The pool and hot tub area was very neat (shark aquarium) I would recommend the hotel for anyone and especially for people who are looking for the real vegas experience. I've stayed on the strip previously and I have found fremont to be more exciting and more what I imagined Vegas to be. All of the casios on fremont are right on off of the sidewalk and there are no 15 minute walks just to get to a casio. Also the fremont experience (viva vision) is very cool.

We just returned from a stay at the Golden Nugget, April 13 - 16th, 2007. We have stayed there twice before and have loved the hotel in the past, so I was looking forward to seeing the new pool and the changes they have made. We were not disappointed. The pool, in my opinion is the best in Vegas at this time. The water slide through the shark tank was a blast. My husband and I both went down it and had a great time. Nice, comfy lounge chairs and patio furniture all around the pool and loved the lawn beds in the water. Great way to keep cool and watch the shark tank. The rooms are always nice and the beds comfortable. Housekeeping is very good, with a supervisor coming by to check the rooms after they have been cleaned, I saw this myself. We ate in the Carson Street Cafe and it was very good and reasonably priced. And the Grotto bar was fun with very friendly waite staff. Overall, this is a beautiful hotel and they have just made it even better with the new pool and new lounges and restaurant. We will stay there again no doubt about it. We were comped very well and my hubby did good on the dollar flaming 7 machines. If someone writes a bad review about this place, they better pay the extra and go stay at the Bellagio or Wynn. We have stayed at several strip hotels in the past and the Golden Nugget is by far our favorite. If you stay there and want a really good prime rib dinner that is inexpensive go to the California Hotel Casino in the Market Street cafe. It is only $6.99 and it is fabulous and you even get dessert with it.

My wife and I stayed a week at the Golden Nugget in early February. We were there for an educational seminar and had a regular room on an upper floor. It was cold the day we got there and the heat did not work in our room. I called housekeeping and in about 5 minutes the hotel maintaince guy was there with a new unit and up and running in about 5 more minutes. He was very pleasant. Housekeeping kept our room nice and clean all week and kept us supplied with amenities. The price was cheap and only Saturday night was a little more expensive , but still cheap. The restaurants are equal to any on the strip, especially the Italian and the grill. We have stayed at the Golden Nugget several times and at the big hotels on the strip and all have been very nice, but the Nugget is very easy to get around in and the traffic is easier away from the strip. The new pool is beautiful . Overall. the Nugget is a great choice.
