Just returned from 3 nights at the Nugget with wife and two kids.
Pros: Awesome pool for kids (shark feeding is at 12:30pm every other day), clean, and affordable (we paid $36/nt), two Starbucks in hotel, waitress service at pool was good
Cons: Taxi to strip is expensive-- $22 one-way. No kids menus at any of the hotel restaurants and food at hotel was over priced-- food was good but not great. Access to the gym is $20/day. Breakfast buffet ends at 10:30am sharp.
Suggestions:
Request a room away from the hotel's expansion project or else you will here construction vehicles honking and backing-up early in the morning. Overall nice hotel and would stay there again and would recommend for families. Weekdays are a lot less crowded.

My spouse and another couple all travelled together to Vegas. It was our first time, there 5th.
We had originally booked another hotel earlier, but booked our flights at a later date, which gave us an unanticipated extra night in Vegas. The extra night landed us at the Golden Nugget.
We were pleased with everything the minute we stepped into the Nugget. It was very nicely decorated, it was bustling with people, we had a quick and easy check in, plenty of restaurants, casino close by and our rooms were great. The rooms were nice and spacious, clean, well decorated and charming. We also had no troubles parking our rental car.
We spent a 1/2 day by the pool. It was darn hot, but we managed to stay cool on the 2nd level under the shade of the palm trees. We also took frequent dips in the pool to cool off. Also it was a must to view the shark/fish tank from in the pool and of course take a fast slide through the tank into the pool. Although the line up for the waterslide looked intimadating it moved quickly. When relaxing on the lounge chair there was a drink service available which we partook in and found the drinks to be reasonably priced considering other places we had been (of course they don't beat the $1 Margherita's on the Strip!)
After the pool, my husband and I ate at the Grotto on site. We had a fantastic meal and great service. Our friends ate earlier at the Buffet and said there was lots of variety and they ate well.
This casino and the Fremont St area seemed to be our last lucky day for gambling. We had not fared well on the Strip, but Fremont proved for us to be our jackpot (we are by all means not big gamblers, and winning $25 is huge to us!!).
Great area to stay in at night witht he entertainment, casino's and old style Vegas Neon lights.
We highly recommend staying at the Golden Nugget if Vegas is your choice.

The Golden Nugget is our favorite Las Vegas hotel & casino. We have stayed in every room type available there. The Spa Suites are worth the splurge!! They are also a great value compared to the upscale suites on the strip. We booked our Spa Suite for $239 per night through an email promotion. The suite is about 1500 sq ft. It has 1 1/2 baths, floor to ceiling glass windows, bar with refrigerator & ice maker, 3 flat screen TVs, jetted jacuzzi tub, separate steam shower, bidet & a convenient exterior door in the bedroom chamber upstairs.

The casino was our friend during our stay. I like the dealers at the Nugget because they are very personable. The whole atmosphere at the Nugget is what I like the best. It is classy yet laid back & fun.

Also...the hot rock massage at the GN Spa is fabulous.
And, the rib-eye steak at Vic & Anthony's at the GN is fabulous too.
The Gordie Brown show is ok...not the best.

I encourage you to sign up for the email promotions if you are interested in staying in a suite at the GN. You can probably get a better deal through a air/hotel package for a standard room.....but the best deals on the Spa Suites & the Parlor Suites are through the email promotions.

This hotel exceeded me and my families expectations! Beautiful room, bathroom, restaurants and pool! The parking was detached from the hotel which made it a little inconvenient, but not bad. We especially loved the pool. It was gorgeous! The best we've seen. I only wish that the pool was opened to all until 10:00pm. The pool area was so crowded and didn't really have chairs available until 6:30pm - 7:00pm and it closed at 8:00pm. We had so much fun anyway! Also, the hotel is connected to the Fremont Experience street that was the happening "strip" of the downtown area which made it very convenient to shop and hotel hop to gamble or eat. We'll definitely be back!

We had booked two nights in the Gold Club Rooms and it was everything we expected and had read about, no surprises. Check in was fast and professional in the club room check-in room and the line out front was packed, so far… so good. We went with another couple and they gave us adjoining rooms, they were exactly as portrayed on the web site and were spotlessly clean too. Bed and linens were top notch for a great night sleep, big screen TV, leather couch, great view of the pool and the smart mirror in the bathroom was just too cool. The bottled water, apples and snacks during the day was nice and the coffee in the morning was much needed and appreciated. My wife never ever goes to the pool in Vegas but loved the shark-aquarium tank, yes it was busy but we had a great time. The staff was genuinely friendly, helpful and seemed to be enjoying their jobs. We have stayed at the Bellagio, Wynn, TI suites, Tropicana and The Flamingo and this was just as fine as or finer than all of those. Yes, the hotel is older and the bathroom is small but everything else was first class. My wife did not want to stay downtown because she loves the strip, but I think we found our new home at the Golden Nugget.
