This hotel exceeded me and my families expectations! Beautiful room, bathroom, restaurants and pool! The parking was detached from the hotel which made it a little inconvenient, but not bad. We especially loved the pool. It was gorgeous! The best we've seen. I only wish that the pool was opened to all until 10:00pm. The pool area was so crowded and didn't really have chairs available until 6:30pm - 7:00pm and it closed at 8:00pm. We had so much fun anyway! Also, the hotel is connected to the Fremont Experience street that was the happening "strip" of the downtown area which made it very convenient to shop and hotel hop to gamble or eat. We'll definitely be back!

We had booked two nights in the Gold Club Rooms and it was everything we expected and had read about, no surprises. Check in was fast and professional in the club room check-in room and the line out front was packed, so far… so good. We went with another couple and they gave us adjoining rooms, they were exactly as portrayed on the web site and were spotlessly clean too. Bed and linens were top notch for a great night sleep, big screen TV, leather couch, great view of the pool and the smart mirror in the bathroom was just too cool. The bottled water, apples and snacks during the day was nice and the coffee in the morning was much needed and appreciated. My wife never ever goes to the pool in Vegas but loved the shark-aquarium tank, yes it was busy but we had a great time. The staff was genuinely friendly, helpful and seemed to be enjoying their jobs. We have stayed at the Bellagio, Wynn, TI suites, Tropicana and The Flamingo and this was just as fine as or finer than all of those. Yes, the hotel is older and the bathroom is small but everything else was first class. My wife did not want to stay downtown because she loves the strip, but I think we found our new home at the Golden Nugget.

My husband and I needed a staycation, so we checked into the Golden Nugget for one night. The hotel itself is lovely, and the staff is courteous and efficient. However, there were some issues. My complaints are as follows:
1. Hookers in the casino. If they're obvious to me, they should be obvious to security. They shouldn't be allowed to work the casino floor in so blatant a manner.
2. They need to invest in new mattresses. I felt like I was having a Princess and the Pea experience. The mattress in our room was entirely too soft. Not everyone likes to sink all the way to the floor when they lie down.
3. Make sure all rooms have a Do Not Disturb sign. We didn't have one in ours, but I didn't think it was necessary. That is, until housekeeping barged in at 8:30 a.m. and woke us up. Ouch. Good thing we were able to check out and drive the three miles to our own house to sleep in comfort.
Other than that, the Golden Nugget is a nice location for tourists. Just don't expect to be getting caviar on a bologna budget.

  • Liked — The Shark Pool is awesome
  • Disliked — Downtown Vegas is still pretty skeevy

We arrived at the Golden Nugget around 3pm and there was no wait at check in. We asked for a free upgrade and the clerk did try to find one but most of the rooms were sold out due to a Blackjack Tournement that weekend. We had a South Tower room on the 19 floor which had a pretty view and a very comfortable King Bed. The bathroom was nice and the shower had very good water pressure. The time share people near the elevators did try to stop on on several occasions but just tell them you are not interested and they will stop. (you will also get these people at the entrance to the casino on Fremont St as well) Overall the the Golden Nugget was a very nice hotel, we did get the coupon booklet but most coupons are only good Mon-Fri, and of course we stayed on the weekend. We did eat at the Carson St Cafe which was okay. We ate at The Grille on late nights but the people there did not have much personality at all. Casino was fun, but the slots were very tight. I enjoyed playing the blackjack tables there and the dealers were always great. As far as the Fremont St area, the place has a lot of sketchy characters in the area and a lot of people giving you "free" comps (beware of them it is a timeshare). Lightshow was pretty neat as well. I would probably stay on the strip next time, not because of Golden Nugget because it was fabulous there, but the Fremont St area did not impress me much.
