We arrived at the Golden Nugget around 3pm and there was no wait at check in. We asked for a free upgrade and the clerk did try to find one but most of the rooms were sold out due to a Blackjack Tournement that weekend. We had a South Tower room on the 19 floor which had a pretty view and a very comfortable King Bed. The bathroom was nice and the shower had very good water pressure. The time share people near the elevators did try to stop on on several occasions but just tell them you are not interested and they will stop. (you will also get these people at the entrance to the casino on Fremont St as well) Overall the the Golden Nugget was a very nice hotel, we did get the coupon booklet but most coupons are only good Mon-Fri, and of course we stayed on the weekend. We did eat at the Carson St Cafe which was okay. We ate at The Grille on late nights but the people there did not have much personality at all. Casino was fun, but the slots were very tight. I enjoyed playing the blackjack tables there and the dealers were always great. As far as the Fremont St area, the place has a lot of sketchy characters in the area and a lot of people giving you "free" comps (beware of them it is a timeshare). Lightshow was pretty neat as well. I would probably stay on the strip next time, not because of Golden Nugget because it was fabulous there, but the Fremont St area did not impress me much.

I have been to Vegas numerous times and usually travel there twice a year, always stay at Main Street Station (see my review) stayed at the GN for 3 nites and then over to the MSS for 4. The price of the room was $49.00 a night plus tax, received a coupon booklet, only used the ones for the buffet. The drink coupons were kind of a joke, as all they gave you was a sampler glass of certain types of beer, and a small mixed drink ( you could not taste any alcohol) the bartender was not very nice. The buffet was good and a value at 2 for 1. Like others have said the pool area is very crowded and it is extremely hard to get a chair. There were a lot of families.
You had to a walk a far way to get to the elevator for the south tower and yes those annoying time share people were there bugging everyone, just keep walking! If you walk far away from your spouse they will not bother you.

We ended up getting a handicapped washroom (the sink was very small and there was no counter space at all to place anything) there was no fridge in the room and the TV did not always work as there were no signals for the channels. The GN is pretty crowded and it seemed like there was a more younger crowd who like to party ( the MSS is more quiet with a different clinental) the slots were tight, could not even win $5.00 (different story at the MSS, the CAL and Binions) drink service was far and few inbetween, not like Binions (with excellent, super friendly waitresses) and MSS or the CAL.

In any event, the GN was clean and the room was pretty nice, but not all that big but for $49.00 a night, who can complain. I just will not stay again, it just was not for me.

Any way, that's my 2 cents worth.

My husband and I stayed there for our anniversary. I especially enjoyed the spa, it was five star quality service. The casino was cool, clean and I actually won money!!! My husband entered the blackjack tournament...He did not win, but the comped food , drinks and awesome staff made losing alright. The rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable. The staff was always nice, polite and helpful. The restaurants were exquisite, a bit expensive, but worth the price. The Goldiggers club balcony is nice, but the music, atmosphere and overpriced drinks made it difficult to enjoy. Walking up and down Fremont Street was a wonderful experience, the, shops light shows, live music and tribute to Micheal Jackson was unforgettable. We saw the Gordie Brown show and I was not impressed Gordie spent to much time flirting with married women in the audience and his impersonations were not funny. However he does have a nice singing voice. Overall the week I spent there was great.

I booked a room at the Golden Nugget through Orbitz several months before our trip to Vegas. They were running a special which included somewhat discounted pricing on rooms and included a special bonus booklet including gambling vouchers, meal discounts, free meals etc. Many other hotels were offering great pricing on rooms, but didn't have any special bonuses, so we chose the Nugget.

Well, once we arrived and self-parked we were accosted by a desk full of used car salesman types trying to sell us discounted tickets to shows. We told them that we just drove all day and want to just check in. They still tried to sell us tickets and finally we had to be very firm in order to get directions to the check in desk.

When we arrived at check in the line was ridiculously long. When I got to the desk the clerk was rude and bossy. I tried to give him my printed confirmation from Orbitz and he said he didn't need to see it in a very brash way. Then what a surprise, we get our keys in a little folder and there is nothing in there except our keys. No booklet w/ specials or vouchers. So we have to go back down from our South Tower room, which required us to walk past the desk of show ticket sales people again - just don't make eye contact with them. When I talked to a different gentleman at check in he said that they had "run out" of the special booklets and all her could offer us was 2 free passes to the buffet and 2 free passes to the spa/sauna. What a ripoff!! The booklet we were supposed to get included over $100 of vouchers and coupons and we get two passes for a $15 buffet (which was not very good at all btw) and passes for the sauna. If I wanted a sauna I could walk outside where it was 112 degrees! I couldn't even use the "spa" passes for any spa services such as massages or manicure/pedicures because it doesn't include that. I asked if we could exchange the spa passes for something else that we would actually use and was told no. I was fuming. We even talked to the host about this and had no success at all. He did nothing for us. They would have been wise to give people gambling vouchers so that we would at least stay in their casino to gamble.

We did have fun in the casino, although if you purchase drinks at the bar it was extremely expensive - stick w/ the waitresses. Our room was beautiful, very large and immaculately clean, the bed was so comfortable. Nice bathroom, nice towels. I called housekeeping to come and change our sheets and it was taken care of right away. For some reason the TV got very few channels and the hotel services station would not work, neither would the movie channels. The only downside of our room was that being located in the South Tower meant that everytime we went to and from our room we had to walk by the desk of ticket sales-people. And EVERY time they tried to sell us tickets. It was really annoying!!!! The location was convenient and within walking distance to lots of places on Fremont St.

The dinner buffet pretty much stunk. The food was the same quality that I would expect at an Old Country Buffet - Yuck! However, the breakfast buffet was wonderful!!! Everything I had for breakfast was delicious and there were so many choices.

The day we were checking out there was a special offer slipped under our door - if we wanted to stay an extra day we could have the room for a discount. I called the front desk and they said we could have the room for $34. If we had gotten our incentives booklet we would have stayed for sure. But without that they're just trying to get more of our money so we opted not to stay the additional night.

We enjoyed our one night stay at the Golden Nugget on June 26th and really enjoyed the pool but it is a very busy place and chairs were hard to come by, I noticed alot of chairs that were being "held" with towels on them, I think after awhile if no one is using them then the towels should be removed so they could be used but thats just my opinion...We also enjoyed the different slots in the casino, never won anything BIG but had lots of fun. I would definately stay again if the price was right..
