I booked a VIP Gold Club Room for the extra amenities like going to the head of the line in the buffet, and the VIP Lounge. I also booked it because in the virtual tour of the room, there was both a recliner and a large sofa to relax on. When we got to the hotel, the service was great, and the public rooms were beautiful.
When we got to the room however, that was a different story. Our room was in corner in a stairwell area. It was laid out differently than the picture. The walls were very dark brown, not deep tan as the pictures seemed to indicate. This made the room also like being in a cave. Since there were no curtains over the window, there was a lot of music coming from the street as well as a great deal of bright light. Also, the one feature I wanted the most was missing. There were no upholstered chair or couch. Just a wood desk chair and a end of bed bench. No sign of either sofa or recliner. We basically got half a room.
The bathroom was so trendy as to be almost unfunctional. It took me 5 minutes to figure out how to turn on the water using the ultra modern style faucet, and another 5 minutes to figure out how to turn on the shower. The glass in front of the shower made it very hard on turn on and adjust the shower. Once the shower was on, it was the rain type showerhead and I could never get a forceful spray that I prefer. On the other hand, the TV in the mirror was cool.
In the morning we were awaked before 6 am by construction noise from somewhere outside. If there had been curtains on the window, it might have muffled the noise. The buffet was okay, it was food and a large variety but nothing great. The coffee was weak.
The casino was laid out in such a way that if you wanted to walk around, you couldn't. There was enough room between slot machines facing each other, but the main walk areas through the casino was so tight as to be unsafe when crowded - elbow to elbow people. The line to get the 24 karat club card was so long we never got ours.
The morning we checked out we used the VIP lounge such to have a quiet place to read the newpaper and drink coffee since our room had no chairs. It was beautiful and comfortable, but a group of people came in after us and starting talking, so it wasn't quiet. We asked the ladies at the desk to assist us in a couple of things, but they could not accomodate us. When we checked out, we did talk to the manager about the lack of chairs in our room, and he did knock $50 off the room rate.
Overall, the extra cost of the VIP room was not worth it, the few extra amenities we got such as free bottled water, and a few snacks did not make up for the lack of chairs, the noise, the bright lights and lack of quiet space. Our room was $169 before the $50 deduction, but even at $119, that is more than double the cost of a standard room. At least in a standard room there may have been a chair. If I had to do Las Vegas again, I would have stayed somewhere else.
