I can't believe that I forgot to review the Four Queens after our stay there last September.
The wife and I traveled to LV for our wedding anniversary, and we knew we wanted to stay downtown. After searching TripAdvisor, we had decided on the Golden Nugget, but they didn't have a room available for the full length of our stay. We then opted to book at the Four Queens, and am I ever glad we did.
We arrived after getting our rental acr at the airport, and the valet took care of our bags and parked our car. Check in was a breeze, but we got a bit lost finding our room. We booked a room in the tower closest to Fremont Street, so you have to walk through the casino to get to the elevators for that tower. The path wasn't marked very well, but we managed to run into someone who pointed the way. After you find the elevators the first time, they're very easy to find.
We got up to our room, and I placed the night lock in the opening to hold the door open for the valet. A knock at the door a few minutes later was from Security, who was wlking the hallway and saw the open door so he checked to make sure everything was OK in the room. The valet arrived a few minutes later, and also knocked and waited until I opned the door to come in.
As others have said, the rooms are not huge, but there's plenty to do that you don't need to spend a lot of time in the room. I would have liked a bigger chair to sit in, but I understand why there isn't one, and I could live without it. The bathroom could have been bigger for me, but once again, they have to work with the footprint of an old hotel building, so they have to make do with the size of the bathroom.
We called and asked for extra towels and pillows, and they arrived within ten minutes without any issues at all. Rooms were taken care of every day, sometimes within an hour of us leaving the room in the morning.
We enjoyed playing at many of the downtown hotels, but the El Cortez and the Four Queens were our two favorites. The El Cortez is just down from the Fremont Street Experience, which is where we found the lowest table game limits. But I had a blast playing at the Four Queens. The look of the casino is classic, a Victorian-like decor. A dealer taught me how to play Pai Gow Poker, which I had never understood before, and I became addicted to it. I also enjoy playing Blackjack and Roulette, and played those as well. A dealer named Junie was a pleasure to be with. I lost $100 at her table one night and walked away laughing and happy. She seems to want you to enjoy your game, and was just a great personality. We will definitely look for her specifically when we return.
We used the rental car several days, decided to get away from the downtown casino scene for a while. We visited the Red Rock Canyon historic area, a beautiful 13 mile scenic drive through beatuiful scenery. The next day we went to Valley of Fire State Park, and found we didn't have enough time to see all of the park. This place was absolutely amazing, being an arm's length away from 4000 year-old indian petroglyphs. I will return to Valley of Fire Park again, it was just stunning.
Of course, you can't forget the Fremont Street Experience, a free light show on the canopy that covers six blocks of Fremont Street. I found myself watching my watch and leaving the gaming tables to go see the light shows.
I highly recommend the Four Queens. If you go to play, look for Junie ... you'll have a blast!
