My Fiance' and I recently returned from our second trip to this property in less than four months. In short, both stays were excellent and I will try to give some specifics. My qualifications for judging this property and Vegas in general are this: I visit this desert playground about 8 times per year and have stayed at the following resorts which I will generally categorize for you:
Horrendous- Circus Circus (first time in Vegas--I will not make that mistake again!)
Very Mediocre- Stratosphere (1 visit)
All OK, but not very glitzy-Rio, Harrah's, Flamingo (harrah's and flamingo have good locations) (numerous visits)
Above Average-Bally's and Treasure Island and New York, New York (Bally's and NYNY once and TI 3 times)
Excellent- Mirage, Mandalay Bay, Paris, Venetian (love mirage for the pool in summer, Paris puts up a good vibe and facade, Venetian for the rooms and Mandalay for the rooms.)
A League of its own- Wynn (stayed for my 30th birthday, a millionaires paradise--but I am no millionaire!)
So what about Caesar's? It's in the "excellent" category. Visually, the property is clean and well maintained. I didn't notice any rough edges that can be seen at places like Flamingo and Rio. Both trips we stayed in the newer Augustus Tower and the rooms are very large with very big bathrooms that have enclosed showers and seperate toilets, vanities and sinks. Plasma 40" TV and a well stocked mini bar (but we always bring our own) The room we stayed in is usually 4-5 hundred per night but we stayed for free both times on direct mail offers (my fiance' is a "Diamond" club member and she gets offers from everyone all the time) Overall, rooms are first rate, very large (almost as big as venetian's famously large rooms) and very clean and modern.
On our first visit we had an incredible view directly facing the Bellagio and its dancing fountains. The only other view we have ever had that was better was at the Paris when we had a direct pool, eiffel tower and Bellagio dancing fountain view! This last visit we had a "strip" view, but you had to look out over the rooftop airconditioning units first.
As far as on-site restaurants go, I only dined at two; The augustus cafe which is right next to lobby checkin' and celebrity chef Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill. The cafe has good food that is reasonable. We were very dissapointed in Mesa Grill. Service was very slow (yes it was 7:30pm, but you should be prepared at that hour) food was not that creative or flavorful and it was overpriced. I can't recommend this place. (If you want an exquisite dining ambiance, go to the eiffel tower restaurant where chef J. Soho cooks.) We did have a pretty slow lunch at augustus cafe but we spoke to a manager about it and he very courteously apologized and comped it; this shows excellent management and guest relations--hallmarks of world class properties.
Overall Vibe: I felt out of place at the Wynn--I simply could not get over how expensive it was and I realized that they just want the millionaire crowd. By contrast, C.P. is beautiful, in places oppulent, has great pools, including one that is European, i.e., TOPLESS, has a terrific race and sports book, a user friendly layout and very friendly employees. For me, it is one of my top three overall spots along with Mirage and Paris. You don't have to be rich to have a great time at this resort. The crowd varies but for the most part it is the late twentysomethings to early forties. Whether you want hot action or high class relaxation you will have plenty of venues to choose from.
Finally: The gym. Great gym and terrific spa. But every report I write about vegas resorts is going to include this vociferous complaint: STOP CHARGING HOTEL GUESTS TO WORK OUT IN THE GYM!! AMERICA IS REALLY FAT AND THIS CHARGE IS NOT HELPING. $20 per day is ridiculous! Feel free to email me at ryan.omalley@regalwineco.com I have lots of vegas insight and recommendations/pros and cons of various resorts.
