Our experience at Caesars Palace probably made this the best Vegas Vacation we have taken.
Location – Best location on the strip, about midway up. Next to Bellagio, across the street from the Flamingo, which means the Venetian or MGM is only a 10 minute walk away. Even if you don’t like the casino at Caesars, you are very close to a range of others. And if shows are your thing, there is a half price tix booth right across the street at Bills.
Check-in – We checked in at 1:15am (thanks crazy reduced airline schedules!), but this seemed to work to our advantage; the line was non-existent (just one person in front of us), and we got a free upgrade! The staff member was on the computer for 5 minutes or so with the occasional apology for the delay, but then declared that the rooms weren’t coming up so he upgraded us! We booked the Classic Room, but got an Augustus Tower room (needless to say, this review might have been different if we had got the room we paid for!). Staff member at reception was very polite and helpful despite the late hour. Worth noting that when we passed reception at other times, lines were huge, so if you are arriving at an earlier hour, bring a book.
Room – Augustus Tower Rooms are marvelous! The décor is modern, with just enough hints of the Roman theme to fit without being tacky. The view was of the strip and the mountains, if you looked to the side of the window – otherwise straight ahead was just the roofs of the casino buildings (they should really think about putting solar panels on them – such a waste of space!). The bed was very comfortable, room was clean. Nice sofa and armchairs, so when relaxing one doesn’t have to sit on the bed like a teenager in his room. Closet had a safe, robes and slippers. The bathroom had twin sinks (always a wife-pleaser), a separate small room for the toilet, a TV and separate bath and shower, with the bath being a whirlpool bath! After reading reviews on this site I didn’t even touch the mini-bar fridge for fear of false billing. TV had a nice selection of channels, and was a new LCD.
Restaurants – Every time we went past most of the restaurants, there was a line, so we ate elsewhere.
Amenities – Casino is a nice size, but didn’t have a lot of Video Poker (our game of choice) so we ended up not gambling here at all. Have gambled here in the past, but there is just something that doesn’t make it appealing. Didn’t use the pools, so no comment on them. We did however use the Qua Spa, and I have to say it is phenomenal! You can use the gym for $25, or the whole facility for $45 – I recommend the $45 day pass! I was shown the facilities and given a locker, as well as robe and slippers, then set off for the gym. The gym is very well equipped and compares favorably to some private gyms, let alone the usual sad excuse for a hotel gym. Post workout, your options are incredible – plan to spend a whole afternoon here! Sauna, steam room (so steamy I couldn’t see anything beyond 2 feet), steam room with eucalyptus, and a cold room, with moisturizing snow! There is a hot tub, as well as roman mineral baths, of different temperatures. Showers have body wash, shampoo and conditioner in them as standard. Once done, you can shave in the well lit bathroom (shaving gel and razors provided), then relax in the tea room, which has a large TV showing ESPN, magazines for men, a range of five different fancy teas, as well as snacks, fruit and choices of water or juices. At no point did I feel pressured to leave or hurry up. If the rest of your vacation involves late nights, drinking and over-indulging this is the perfect recovery for you.
The only time I got a bit miffed was with the staff at the gift shops, who really didn't seem interested in serving someone who only wanted to buy a postcard, to the point where I just walked out the first one after waiting a ridiculous amount of time.
Checkout – I checked the bill online through the hotel TV, and there was almost no wait at reception to get a copy of the bill and hand the keys in. Bill was correct, staff very friendly.
Overall, the best experience at a hotel in Vegas so far. If you are one of those picky people that want fresh soap every day, and new towels and your slightest whim at a moment’s notice, then you may be disappointed. As someone that just wants a nice clean room, working amenities and a correct bill, I was very happy.
