I booked 2 Augustus tower rooms, 3 nights for the in-laws 50th anniversary. I was never told of the construction (new wing) when booking through the hotel directly and was sorely disappointed when I stepped out to the pool to find the noise deafening- saws, hammers, welders. We came for a relaxing time by the pool and what we found was complete annoyance from beginning to end. I did ask for a Bellagio fountain view...and got it, yet was not told I'd also be staring into 14 building cranes for City Center. Also, the hotel did nothing for the 50th anniversary. The in-laws were not impressed to say the least. I was ashamed to have brought them there. We should have checked out after day 1, but they didn’t want to repack and move.
The pool itself had opaque water, a greasy film floating on it and cigarette butts littered around. You must pay for drinking water (in 115 heat you'd think they'd give you water to keep you from passing out), and pay for a pool float if you want it. If you want shade, you best be the first at the pool or pay some more money to get some. The pool closes at 7pm…. It's 105 at night, the sun sets at 8 and they close the pool at 7? What's up with that? I had to hunt long and hard for lounge chairs (on a weekday) and due to construction there was a lot less room (I was told) so the lounges don't have an inch between them. There was a sticky mess below the lounge I did find one day- no wonder no one took it. And I ended up with a case of athletes foot.....bring some flip-flops and don't take them off! Better yet, don't go. And the 7 month pregnant waitress in a bikini didn’t help the ambience either.
I drove in on a Sunday, mid afternoon, and the valet sign said it was full...unload and go park it yourself. Yet it seemed empty. It was hit and miss whether or not the valet would take your car for the 3 days we were there.
Some of the room decor did seem new and updated but one wooden chair looked like it came from the swap meet... it was so banged up and abused. Several light bulbs were burnt out, the towels were better at a Holiday Inn Express we stayed at, and the toilet ran all the time. I did complain about the pool noise and lack of notice and was told 'too bad, nothing we can do about it".
On the upside the beds were comfortable and the AC worked well.
I've stayed at the Venetian and it's, by far, light years ahead in service and quality.
