We stayed at the Bellagio on our first visit to Vegas and thought it was beautiful. Sadly we didn't have a lake view, but the room was large and had everything we needed.
Note for British visitors - no tea/coffee making facilities though!
On arrival we requested a fridge to be brought to the room and this was done straight away. The first one didn't work and was replaced the next day.
All of the public areas of the hotel are palatial and immaculate, but we found all of the restaurants prohibitively expensive. On our first night we had a coffee and sandwich, but otherwise ate in the other hotels.
We followed some tripadvisor tips and bought supplies in the Desert Passage in the Aladdin opposite. We also found Max's Restaurant in Desert Passage to be the best value for money deal - especially at lunch time.
We didn't experience any of the service failures that others have complained of - we didn't queue at check in and we checked out via the TV. The maid service was efficient and unobtrusive - no-one ever disturbed us in the room despite our odd jet lag sleeping times.
On the whole we loved the hotel, but just found it an inconvenience to have to go out everytime we wanted to eat or drink. All of the other hotels have some sort of reasonable food court - even the Monte Carlo, Caesars and the Luxor.
