First, we will NOT be staying here ever again.
We reserved our trip and room five months in advance for a king size bed and received a room with double beds because they said, "reservations are requests," with no guarantee that you will get what you reserved. VERY BAD first impression. The guy checking us in didn't even make eye contact with us. We complained twice before getting a king bed the next day. We had to switch rooms and had to wait on them to switch.
Our room was average, very few TV channels, small TV, cheap furniture. The bed was pretty comfortable, but the A/C was loud and didn't work very well. The bathroom was average size and the water pressure is good, but the wall paper was pealing off and the shower head was loose and coming out of the wall. The housekeeping was average, but the second night we noticed a shortcut taken. They put a full size bed sheet across the king bed sideways instead of getting a king size fitted bed sheet. This is a bad sign!
Parking is free, access the self-parking garage from the rear (3rd St.), just write your name and room number on the ticket and you'll never pay for parking. Otherwise, I think it's $1.50/hr.
Some of the buttons didn't work on the old phone and there were no maps of the casino telling you where anything was.
Fremont St. is pretty neat with shopping and access to the other casino's within a short walk. There is McDonalds and Krispy Kreme donuts in the Fitzgerald's, and Dunkin Donuts in Four Queens. We didn't eat at the casino restaurants, but they looked ok.
The Fitzgerald's, and the rest of downtown, is a long way from the Strip. You shouldn't walk it. It's too far, plus it's not safe walking around downtown outside the safety of the casino's. If you do go to the Strip, park at the Excalibur, which is street level and free parking, and it's a short walk to the rest of the Strip.
The dealers at the casino are friendly and never felt crowded during the week. Traffic is horrendous on the Strip and especially bad in the morning and afternoon from 3-6pm because thousands of workers need to get to work in a few block radius. You don't need a car, just use the casino shuttles.
