“Fitzgerald's on Fremont Street - NOT close to strip”

Fitzgeralds Casino & Hotel

First, we will NOT be staying here ever again.

We reserved our trip and room five months in advance for a king size bed and received a room with double beds because they said, "reservations are requests," with no guarantee that you will get what you reserved. VERY BAD first impression. The guy checking us in didn't even make eye contact with us. We complained twice before getting a king bed the next day. We had to switch rooms and had to wait on them to switch.

Our room was average, very few TV channels, small TV, cheap furniture. The bed was pretty comfortable, but the A/C was loud and didn't work very well. The bathroom was average size and the water pressure is good, but the wall paper was pealing off and the shower head was loose and coming out of the wall. The housekeeping was average, but the second night we noticed a shortcut taken. They put a full size bed sheet across the king bed sideways instead of getting a king size fitted bed sheet. This is a bad sign!

Parking is free, access the self-parking garage from the rear (3rd St.), just write your name and room number on the ticket and you'll never pay for parking. Otherwise, I think it's $1.50/hr.

Some of the buttons didn't work on the old phone and there were no maps of the casino telling you where anything was.

Fremont St. is pretty neat with shopping and access to the other casino's within a short walk. There is McDonalds and Krispy Kreme donuts in the Fitzgerald's, and Dunkin Donuts in Four Queens. We didn't eat at the casino restaurants, but they looked ok.

The Fitzgerald's, and the rest of downtown, is a long way from the Strip. You shouldn't walk it. It's too far, plus it's not safe walking around downtown outside the safety of the casino's. If you do go to the Strip, park at the Excalibur, which is street level and free parking, and it's a short walk to the rest of the Strip.

The dealers at the casino are friendly and never felt crowded during the week. Traffic is horrendous on the Strip and especially bad in the morning and afternoon from 3-6pm because thousands of workers need to get to work in a few block radius. You don't need a car, just use the casino shuttles.

We stayed at The Fitzgerald Hotel on Freemont Street from 3/16-3-20. Have stayed there the past 3 times and this was the worst! Bed was horrible; had to call 3 days, several times a day, to get a hair dryer in the room. Towels were paper thin, room was just run down and OLD. Management really acted like they could care less as far as our satisfaction went. Have usually had great rooms and great prices for the rooms. Liked the fact that we were so close to so many casinos and could just walk a few feet to go to another casino. Think we will end our streak of staying at the Fitz. Prices were just not worth the sleepless nights and backaches we put up with.

“Elevator problems”

We stayed at the Fitz during a big convention week. The rates at our usual hotels were sky high and they would not accept comps - so we opted for the cheap rates at the Fitz.

The elelvators were really scary - usually jerking up and down - and missed our floor completely once. I was in the elevator alone when it went up to my floor, did not open the doors, and returned to the first floor. My husband said it opened to one of the floors and it was partly on the floor below. One morning, we waited for 15 minutes for the elevator, so we decided to take the stairs (only 11 flights down). We saw many other guests walking the stairs and even saw a couple of older gentlemen with their large suitcases coming down from the 19th floor!

The rooms were ok, the housekeeper did a good job of cleaning everyday, but I agree that the drains were slow and the bathrooms could use some updating. Not the best place if you like to hang out in your room.

The casino is a typical downtown place - no thrills - a lot of machines.

I will not be staying at the Fitz again, I would rather pay extra to stay somewhere else.

This was our first time staying downtown but it certainly isn't going to be the last. We just booked another trip(again at the Fitz) June 22-29. With all the hype I read on here, I was a bit apprehensive about the elevators but we never had a bit of trouble with them and we were on the 35th floor. They were a bit small but given the age of the building--go figure. Our check in was smooth and all of the service we received was excellent. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffett's. The choices were somewhat limited but then again, it's not the Strip. Killer food, though. We probably were the most impressed about the $$$ we saved eating, shopping--just everything. We still do the Strip via the Duece a few times but all in all, Fremont St and the Fitz works for us. Good comps, too, and several in the mail after our return.
