“This hotel is a very bad hotel - do not go there”

Fitzgeralds Casino & Hotel

Sep 3, 2008 New

We decided on this hotel based on the 3* rating it had. This is not a 3* hotel!!! It is bad.

First of all - everything smells like smoke. Even the non-smoking rooms smell like smoke. Since I don't smoke, I find this to be a bad thing
Second - the room we stayed in looked really bad. It was small, dirty looking, not clean.
Third - when we wanted to switch the hotel, the hotel manager could not be found (we called at 1am). When he got in (at 6:30) it would not refund us our money (we payed to stay for 5 days and wanted to leave after 1 night).
Fourth - we did not feel safe in the hotel/neighborhood - very shady place.

We did, in fact leave after that first night and found a deal online for MGM Grand - and there is no comparison between the two.

I will never ever go back to that hotel and I suggest that you spend a bit more money and stay on the Strip - much better view, great service and you are right in the middle of all the cool places.

Expedia tried to help, but in the end, we had to forfeit the hotel money. They said we'll get a 100$ coupon and $100 back but I have not yet seen those. Might update on this. They also did not want to match the deal I found on MGM Grand's web page because they could not open the MGMgrand.com web page. Well - if they don't want my money it is fine with me.

Had 2 rooms, 1 with 2 beds & 1 with 1 bed, non smoking, high floor as requested. Both rooms neat, tidy, just your average size hotel room. Never waited long for elevators any of the days we were there (Wed - Sun). All staff I used were helpful & curtious. I also used the pool (heated) & valet parking everyday with no problems.
I would stay there again and I would recomend it to family and friends as value for money.

“Looks like the end of my relationship with the Fitz”

I have tried to be loyal to the Fitz because they have been such gracious hosts in the past...But the last couple of times were not so good...
First of all they were obviously short staffed on the Valet parking...the ones working were nice but much slower than the past.
The room was bland, dirty and had none of the travel magazines and stuff. I think someone had checked out and the room was not refreshed before we got it...but the carpet was nasty, the air conditioner did not work well ( while it is over 100 degrees outside) and the over all ambiance was just lacking. Left 5 Bucks for Housekeeping to leave us some extra towels and pillows...got one set of towels and A pillow...what? Pillow shortage? You HAVE to get Extra towels there because they have the tiniest, thinnest towels in Vegas.
Went down with the coupon they gave us for a free dinner at Don B's and asked if we could pay the difference and have lobster rather than the steak and they said NO! We didn't even say how much we would pay different but they made no effort to make us happy...service was lack luster but the food was delicious.
Went to the Buffet with the "Breakfast buffet" Coupon handed us at check in and ..NO breakfast buffet??? So we decided to order of the menu..5 minutes passed and not even a nod like we were going to get service so we got up and walked out...went to McDonald's downstairs.
It was very slow and blah....actually all of downtown seemed blah.
We checked out early and got a room at the IP on the strip and I fear we will never look back at the Old Fitz..

If you are expecting Wynn accomidations at this price , you will be very disapointed. If you are a fan of "old Vegas," stay at the Fitz. Though the rooms are a bit tattered, I can not say enough good things about the casino staff. The bartenders downstairs (Al and Helen (I think!!??)) were AWESOME! While playing VP I couldn't even get the last swallow in before another beer was in front of me. Very friendly and prompt. Even the pit bosses were fun, and when the dealer was whipping cards out faster than I could bet (i missed a hand,) the boss told her to slow the hell down. (and we all laughed about it too, I was a bit tipsy.) Even the dour faced sports book guy was courteous and went out of his way to help. I've stayed at the Golden Nugget for the last 5 or 6 visits, but the (relatively) new owner of the Fitz and his emphasis on "friendly" have earned my business for my next trip in September.

DO NOT stay here. At all. It is dirty, the wallpaper was peeling in the room, the bathroom was filthy. I actually bought a bottle of bleach and poured in the tub. The elevators are horribly slow. We waited 15 minutes for an elevator at one point. We stayed here because of the convienance of Fremont Street. I will not do that again. I will spend the extra money and go to the Golden Nugget.

The kicker was there was AN EXPLOSION at the pasta bar people had to be taken out of the hotel on stretchers. The idiot chef but butane bottles near an open flame, almost killed my friend. And were we offered anything to compensate nearly being killed? NO!

The staff had the personality of lettuce and were not helpful at all.

Overall, a good place to go if you want a good rapin!
