I recently tried the Maverick Helicopter's Canyon Dream Tour and it was by far the best way to spend time and see the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
We started the day at 7:30am leaving from the Henderson Executive Airport (the company will pick you up from your hotel). We boarded on their new fleet of Beechcraft 1900D planes. The seats were one on each side of the plane. We flew for under an hour and arrived in Tusayan at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon (5 hour drive from Vegas. The land on the South Rim is owned by the American Government. The canyon is much larger than the West Rim).
After we landed, we boarded on the Eco Star helicopter and took a 45 minute flight into the Grand Canyon (not landing), flying over the North and South rim, Kaibab National Forest and Colorado River. We then landed back at the airport in Tusayan and got onto a tour bus. We drove 10 minutes to Mather's Point and had an hour to sight see and take pictures. We then got back onto the bus and drove 15 minutes to the Bright Angel Lodge and spent one hour sight seeing and taking pictures. The tour included a box lunch we received at Bright Angel Lodge. The lunch was a thick turkey sandwich with lettuce and tomato on a croissant, chips, a cookie and water. We walked to the historic El Tovar hotel and sat by the fireplace.
This is the best tour if you would like to spend time at the Grand Canyon. This tour also takes you to the South rim of the Grand Canyon which is much vaster than the West Rim. We then got back onto the Beechcraft 1900D plane and flew back to Vegas.
I would highly suggest this tour over the helicopter tours because you have free time to yourself to explore the canyon rather than 30 minutes in a secluded area.
We arrived back in Las Vegas at 1:15pm. It was a day to remember.
