First of all, the hotel staff is not really a staff. They may be here today, but gone tomorrow. They made a mistake on our booking, and then when we arrived said they had one room and we could stay one night. So we frantically called other hotels, wasting valuable vacation time and cell phone minutes (the rooms have no phones). When I went to the desk to check out, they said they couldn't imagine why, they had plenty of rooms! OK, after that, extremely expensive items were stolen from our room. This caused panic and more time spent at the desk. Not to mention that they do not even pretend to heat the pool or spa. There is no shuttle, so you'd better have your own transp. or a rental car. When we were there the electricity went out for hours. Please, so you don't ruin your trip, go to a reputable hotel where you are guaranteed a nice vacation.

“Desert Tides is a Terrible Place to Stay”

This property,is in terrible condition. The stairs, leading to my
room, were old, shakey, and felt as if they were about to fall from the exterior structure. The condo was not completely clean, There was dirt and ceiling plaster,on the closet shelves. The bathroom sink was clogged and there was hair, all over the bathroom floor and shower area. The oven was filthy. The ceiling fan,in the dining area did not work. The dishwasher and sink area leaked....the maintenance staff came to repair the leaks.....and made the situation worse than it originally was. There were new appliances (dishwasher, stove, refrigerator) that had not been cleaned or plugged in,for test runs. The furnace did not work...I had to use the oven to heat the place, during my first night. This was an awful experience...for a tourist.

The fireplace was a mess, and was missing parts, of the wire front screen. There were no curtains, only blinds that were not properly fitted,to the windows. There were no pictures,on the walls. There were no rugs in the living room and dining room area, the marble tile floor,in the living room was cracked and parts were loose. The balcony screen door had a broken lock.

The light bulbs in the exterior halls had blown out,and were not replaced, during my time,at this location. The exterior lawn needs attention. The exterior stairs...are a fire hazard.

The only positives, are the new furnishings, and a washer/dryer unit. This is not a safe place for anyone to stay. I never observed any security features....the doors are old and do not close tightly. I would not recommend this place...to anyone. It is ,greatly ,in need of repair.

I had to stay here ,a few days ,until I found another place, with a full kitchen. I have to have ,that type of set up ,because I have a medical condition, and must prepare my own meals. I went to a local Walmart Store and purchased rugs and material to create no-sew curtains...for the place. Yes....that's how awful it looked.

It took a few days...but I left this place, as soon as I found another condo. I am still negotiating,to get my money refunded.

This place was great! I was able to bring my dog for only $50 extra for my whole stay! Inexpensive and very nice apartment type setting! By reading others reviews I requested a room on the 3rd level. =) .... The room is equiped with everything from utensils, dishes, extra blankets you name it! We went to the nearest supermarket and were able to cook up our meals with no problem at all. It really felt like home, plasma Tv's nice leather couches, oversized bathtub, huge bed, great deco! =) You will not regret this place! They do have hairdryers and iron/ironing board...No phone so bring a cell phone along. The staff was awesome and very attentive. The Rio is right across the street but if your going to the strip it's not within walking distance so either call a cab or go to the Rio to take their free shuttle! =).... This place was awesome totally beats any high end room on the strip! =)

Despite negative comments on TA, I went ahead and booked a week's stay at Desert Tides (formerly Cay Club, Las Vegas). The welcome was very warm by the desk staff. However, there are major problems with this hotel for the overseas/out of town visitor without transport.

Problem 1: The rooms are apartment type with bathroom, lounge, kitchen and bedroom. The sound insulation is very poor and you can clearly hear other residents moving about and talking. The fire escape (stairs) are made of metal and very noisy.

Problem 2: Unless you have transport the nearest supermarket for food and essentials is a $34 return taxi ride away.

Problem 3: The Cay Club is about a forty minute walk away from the Strip across a very busy highway.

Problem 4: The air conditioning/heating is extremely noisy and woke me up repeastedly. I was assured there was no control of this apart from OFF, with the result one would freeze.

I booked the Cay Club for two nights over New Year's Eve mostly because it was cheaper than staying on the strip at this time of the year. The pictures looked fine online and the staff was friendly on the phone. When we arrived, I couldn't have been more estatic! The place was fantastic!!! Everything was in good condition if not brand new. It was very clean and housekeeping brought an iron and dish soap within hours of our request. It was also extremely quiet!! I was skeptical being New Year's but we hardly heard anything. Also, the Rio is about one third of a mile away and my boyfriend and I walked there to catch the free shuttle to the strip which is very close to the condo. I would most certainly recommend staying here for a Las Vegas trip. It was wonderful to come home to a quiet and clean place. One tip is to print out directions to the Cay Club from the airport because our cab driver didn't know where it was.
