The day started with a prompt pick-up @ 9:00am at MGM Grand in Vegas. Heidi and I met Darryl (the owner) and George (a guide who just so happens to be a professional photographer), our tour guides. Little did we know, that by the end of the day, it would seem that we'd known each other for 20 years. We picked up the rest of the tour group, people from Scotland, England, Singapore, and New Jersey. Us being from Connecticut, it was nice to see the diversity of people on the tour. We all quickly became friends with one another.
On our way to the Hoover Dam/Grand Canyon, we stopped for breakfast (included in the tour) at one of the nicest McDonald's we've ever seen. Along the way, Darryl and George gave us all some history of Boulder City, Lake Mead, and the Hoover Dam. We stopped to view Lake Mead at a great vantage point. Arriving at the Hoover Dam, we stopped above the Dam, again from a great vantage point to take pictures and what have you.
Moving on down the road, we came to Historical Route 66---visited a few shoppes, one belonging to Angel Delgadillo, the man who put Route 66 back on the map (http://www.route66giftshop.com/main.html).
Now, Heidi (at the time my girlfriend), was unaware that I was planning to propose to her at the Grand Canyon. I'd mentioned it to George and Darryl to give them a head's up. Arriving at the Canyon, we began to walk along the South Rim (which is incredible), before stopping for a wonderful picnic lunch (provided by the tour).
We continued to walk for about a mile, when George came to me, pointed to an upcoming ledge of the canyon, and said, "If you're going to do it, that's where you should!" So I gathered myself, took Heidi out to the ledge, as the sun was shining down through the clouds. Everyone in the tour knew what was going on---and stood with cameras ready as I knelt down, and asked Heidi to marry me. She said, "Yes!" A big thank you to George for taking the most incredible picture of our lives.
There are many different tours that are available, but if you really want to get your money's worth out of a tour, there is no option. Go to www.grand-adventures.com and book it today. You can see the Grand Canyon with any tour, but if you want to EXPERIENCE it in it's beauty, and make life long friends along the way, George and Darryl will give you the most incredible experience of your life.
A very special thanks to Darryl and George for making this the best vacation we have ever been on in our lives. You are two in a million. I look forward to taking this tour with you guys again the next time we are out there!
Sincerely,
Justin & Heidi
