Living right here in Las Vegas, my wife and I enjoy fine dining on a weekly basis. Steer clear from this place folks!! Your first clue----when asked to see the menu, we were told, rather rudely, (by 2 gum-chewing hostesses)that "We don't got menus, you eat whatever the chef has made today!" What attitude! Should have walked right then and there. But we had already walked about a mile to find this place (hidden WAY WAY WAY in the far back upper corner of the Rio....at least the Rio had the sense to try and hide the place to protect its customers) so we stayed. BIG MISTAKE! After being forced to buy an $8 bottle of water (they dont serve water any other way!!!!) we eagerly awaited our food. While we waited for dinner to arrive we were "treated" to television images of the chef, who is some sort of "celebrity" in his own mind, falling all over numerous real celebrities in several staged photos. C'mon--really, who IS this guy? Chef Matorano? Ever heard of him? I didnt think so. Anyhow, the food was OK, even though I had to practically BEG our waiter to make me some simple pasta in a cream sauce (it wasn't one of the few things being made that day.) But, they did me a HUGE FAVOR and made it for me! My wife had one of the chicken breast dishes. Then the bill came; its a good thing we were already sitting down. $120!!!!! Let me remind you, all that we had was an $8 bottle of water, a chicken breast and 6 raviolis in a cream sauce! And by the way, we couldn't have had any beer or alcohol (except overpriced wine) with our dinner even if we had chosen to do so...its NOT ALLOWED, because the chef doesn't want alcohol to distract from the intense flavor of his baked chicken breast or raviolis in cream sauce! People, if you want great Italian food, try Maggianos, where for $120 you can stuff FOUR to SIX people AND enjoy a cocktail with your meal. But if you inist on being treated rudely and overpaying for average food, well then by all means you will not want to miss this place. You had better get there soon though....judging by our experience and the rest of the revierws, Cafe Matorano should be closing up shop soon.
