This was my first time to stay at the Signature at MGM Grand. I picked this hotel based on the ratings at this site, great bathroom, and the excellent room rate of $159 for Sun 9/23 - Wed 9/26. I was in town for a conference at the Paris Hotel.
Check In -- Check In went smoothly. From other reviewers comments I called the day before to verify what tower I was in and I verified my cabbie knew where the signature was so I had no problems there. We went straight through the security gate.
The Cab ride was about $15 with tip from the airport.
Luckily, I was in Tower 1 which is closest to the MGM Grand.
Upon check in the attendant put me on floor 36 with a mountainview. I wanted a strip view on a high floor so he looked again. He found a Tower 2 room but I wanted to stay in Tower 1.
In the end he found room 29-617. This was a strip view with a balcony. This is classified as the penthouse.
The Room -- The room was picture perfect and met my expectations. Everything was spotless and clean. The remote control was a little tricky to operate at first but I figured it out. The coffee maker and the kitchenette was very nice. If you can not tell from the pictures there is a sink, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, toaster, blender, two hot stoves. I only got to use the coffee maker on this trip. There are place settings for two. The balcony and fresh air is really nice. I agree with other reviews that they should have chairs out there.
The great bathroom - I ususally pick hotels based on the quality and size of the bathroom. This bathroom did not disappoint. Stand up shower, jacuzzi tub, double sinks, water closet, and plenty of space. The June Jacobs toiletries have a citrus smell. Even the Kohler sinks and nice sturdy fixtures were nice. There were 3 nice sized clean drawers to put my products in. There was a hair dryer, but I didn't use it. Vegas is so dry I air dry my hair. My only complaint with the bathroom is the maid did not leave enough floor towels. I like one in front of the shower, tub, and toilet. There was only one.
Room Service - I ordered room service for breakfast one morning. I got the continental for $18. It arrived in about 20 minutes. I got 3 pastries, fruit, assortment of jams, and coffee.
Housekeeping - There is a little light that you choose at your doorway for either do not disturb or housekeeping. This was nice so I was not bothered early in the morning. The first morning I left $5 and was left with 4 bottles of waters. They usually leave 2 in the room so that was nice. Plus I left a mess with the coffeemaker. She did a good job cleaning but forgot to leave me a new shower cap. I did not request turn down service so I can not comment on that.
Fitness Center - I used the fitness center once and it was great. The treadmill was nice and new with a little LCD tv. There was a fitness center attendant there. They provide headphones for you. They provide towels and iced down towels. They keep bottled water in a little fridge so if you ever need more you can get some here. They had a nice weight area too.
Miscellaneous - Tower 1 has the starbucks which seemed popular. It also had a nice lounge/bar area. Smoke free of course. I walked to Tower 2 and it a little bit bigger pool area then Tower 1 and had the little Delights restaraunt. The selections looked good but I didn't eat there.
The Location - Based on this website I knew what to expect with the walk to MGM Grand. I timed it and the walk from Tower 1 with the moving walkways to MGM was 3 minutes. From this entrance it puts your right next to the MGM Spa, Pool, and Studio Walk (restaurant and shopping). In 7 minutes from Tower 1 you're on the Casino Floor. After this point I lost track of time when I was staring in awe at the lions in the habitat.
From the casino entrance the walk to Paris was about 15 minutes. The monorail is a great alternative to walking. The monorail is very convenient to the Signature in the Studio Walk. For $9 you can get an all day pass.
Miscellaneous - The wireless access in the room was not a problem. I got onto the signature network without any problems.
The $15 resort fee is worth it for the free wireless access, fitness center, in-room coffee, and water bottles. Wireless access elsewhere costs this much per day anyhow.
Overall - I'd stay here again it's nice to step into the Signature lobby after being in the crowds and smoke of the strip.
